Cheryl's Story
I run an architecture and design firm with my husband, Peter. We specialize in large public work such as hotels, theatres, kidney dialosis centers, public and private libraries, spas, and television studios.
We got into the television studio business as a result of me interest and participation in several local television programs. I hosted a program named "Wakefield Focus" for 15 years and produced a women's program in 1992 called "The Total Woman" which is still running today. All the crew are women and we try to cover every possible subject that would be of interest to or benefit women. I produce and host this program. We have a sponsor, a professional make up artist and a local spa takes care of my hair and often the hair of our guest. It has been a remarkable experience and I have learned so much from meeting and interviewing all these extraordinary women. We have done well over 100 programs since 2002..and I have never counted the number of earlier ones.
Peter and I are very active in our community. He is president of The Center for Performing Arts Committee which is trying to raise enough money to build a performing arts theatre here. We both...Expand for more
are founding and active members of The Wakefield Center Neighborhood Association that raises money for town beautification. We put on The Festival by the Lake every June...it has wonderful artisans, great food, live entertainment and a terrific spot to enjoy it all...The Wakefield Common. There is a beautiful lake in our town...and a gorgeous on it. With the money we make..we have built benches for the area, restored the Town Bandstand, restored the town fountain and have it running every summer since 1982, purchased antique street lighting for the Upper Common and present The Lighting of the Lights there every December for the whole community. All the trees are filled with white lights...and Frosty comes and turns them on for all the children. We also sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt for the town..it is quite a sight...Bunny come in on a fire truck...thousands of foil covered chocolate eggs are strewn all over the straw covered Common. What bedlam! But fun too. In short...we stay very busy.
I love to travel and do quite a bit of it...sometimes on my own and sometimes with Peter or friends. Am hoping to go somewhere interesting this year...perhaps Morocco.
