Cheryl's Story
Life
I married Steve Powers in 1977 and we have 2 sons together. They are Patrick (28) and Erik (25) in addition to my oldest son Shawn (31) from my previous marriage. Unfortunately we divorced in 1983 but have been able to stay close enough to get all these boys raised! We are now grandparents to 5 beautiful grandchildren. Shawn's are named Gannan 7, Kobe 4, and Darbi 2, Patrick's daughter Basil Olivia born June 20, 2005 and Erik's son Kegan 1 yr in Sept, 2005. f in Oct. 1999. I began my own computer business in 2002, moved just east of Blue Springs MO in 2004 and married Darin Embry (Shawnee West graduate) whom I met while working together at Gateway. The benefit of having children while young means when they leave the nest, you're still young! So at 47 years of age I'm pursuing interests that were put on hold while raising my family. I play bass guitar in a classic rock/blues band, am learning to play lead/rhythm guitar, turning my genealogy hobby into an obsession, volunteer in our school district computer labs, spoil my grandchildren, garden and mass produce my famous salsa! I travel with my husband and am getting ready to enroll in Washburn/KCKCC 2+2 program for my B.S. in Behavioral Sciences. I will end with my favorite life quote by Janis Joplin: "Always be true to yourself, because YOU are all you've got."
