Cheryl's Story

Life In order to afford myself the best collegiate experience possible(wink, wink) I attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. I majored in love and found myself a wonderful mate, Mike who was slightly older than me and was attending a school in another state. Together, we moved to Orlando, Florida where we (mostly he) started a professional racing team. In 1997, we moved our operation to Atlanta, GA. Simultaneously, I began working in CART and NASCAR, where I stayed for just over three years working as a publicist and media consultant. After over three solid years of extensive and exhausting travel I ended my PR career after the 2000 Tour de France and 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney where I worked as a corporate media consultant. (Where do you go after Lance?) Blaming age and inexperience, Mike and I broke up and I moved back to "Sweet Home Chicago" where I was an interior marketing consultant for some major builders out East. In 2002, Mike and I got engaged and threw a dart at the map and moved to Fort Collins, CO where I was a real estate broker. Spending more time on the slopes and planning my wedding, I experienced my first and hopefully only business failure. Taking my mind off of the business for a short bit, Mike and I moved back to Atlanta. On November 22, 2003 we were married beach side at The Atlantis, a resort and casino on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. It was truly was paradise. After the wedding, I started work as the Sales Manager for a real estate investment firm. After an exceptional year, we rewarded ourselves with a new house in Buckhead, Atlanta and a very comfortable pregnanc...Expand for more
y which ended with little boy named Connor James Johnson. Finding the stress of Mike being gone racing all the time and with no help from family, Mike and I moved back to his hometown of St. Louis where we have started both a real estate investment firm and a brokerage. My husband's name is Mike Johnson and he is racing consutant. He tells teams how to run their operations and call the pit stops. He is the guy who tells the drivers to pit, etc. His type of cars are the one who race endurances (read: over three hours). His cars are best known for racing at the 24 hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours at Daytona, both races he has won! He is also commentates races for Speed TV. You would better know him as "Mike, the racecar driver" from the Real World IV, London. Our little boy looks just like him and will most likely be involved in motorsports. We think it's in the blood. My hobbies are shopping, a talent my husband has great appreciation for, and traveling. Connor has already been on 12 flights and he is just 1-year-old. We spend a lot of time in Las Vegas but for the most part if we are going to travel, I attend the races with Mike which are scattered all over the globe. Our hope for the future is to stay in St. Louis and build a successful real estate business. Mike will stay in auto racing since he enjoys it so much. We only would like one child and hope to give him everything he needs to become a success on his own. I have fond memories at Larkin High and hope everyone in the Class of 1995 are able to look back at their successes and failures with a smile on their face. All the best to my former classmates.
