Cheryl's Story

"Hello SSHS Classmates: It is now over 44 years after graduation from Star-Spencer High School and a number of years later after my divorce from Douglas G. Bork. Me & Doug had 5 daughters and three sons during our marriage while, we were together. Our three sons grew up and joined the military. "United States Marines, "Air Force. Our daughter Marie joined the "United States Navy after she graduated from high school. "Yes. It is "true." Me & Douglas Bork are divorced after 13 long years of marriage. And our prior 3 years together as High School Sweet-Hearts. I once "Loved and "Cherished Doug "Very "Very Much!" We married January 1973 before; I graduated from High School. I "Cherish" our High-School Sweet-Heart days. "Flashback."Song:Cherish-Cool and the Gang. Me & Doug were together for "three,"long sweet emotional years before we exchanged our wedding vowels and were "actually" married. One day after our divorce; while my mind was still refreshed; I added up all the years Doug was TDY far distance away in the military through our years of marriage. All his time away in the military, being on TDY military assignments added up to 7 years. He was gone a "lot." Me and our kids were alone a "lot." As time went by. Me and Doug gradually drifted apart in our relationship with other issues included such as, in-law problems that arrised that, we could never seem to resolve. We were better off divorced. I'm relieved of it all. I'm "happy again now. Sometime. I promise you all. I will put our Pepclub Christmas dance pictures of 1970 on here. I was Sweet-Sixteen. I was wearing my long red velvet formal with baby doll puffed sleeves, trimmed in cultured pearls on an empire waist line. I had long white elbow length gloves on. Doug had his three piece suit on. He looked very "handsome. Another picture of me and Doug together would be of, us at the Junior Senior Prom in May 1973. I had my long purple velvet formal on with silver trim with mesh see through purple long sleeves. To this day. These formals are hanging in my closet stored away. I still have them. I'll be sure and put the picture on here of us in a picture together while he was kissing me on the cheek and hugging me in front of the camera at Six-Flaggs over Texas. Stay-Tuned. Daughters,Sheree,Marie,Jennie,Missie,DeZeree are doing well in their lives. I am proud of all their achievements. They have met their goals. "Yes. Sheree has Doug's deep dimples in "both" her cheeks. She looks exactly like him in the face. She could be his twin sister. Our daughter Marie is in the "United States Navy. She has been serving the Armed Forces for quite some time. She plans a career of it and retiring. Jennie does Notary and office work for a big ship Company. Missie is a Bank Teller/Banker voted one of the best in her branch. She is so good that; She has been promoted several times. As for my youngest daughter Dezeree; still in school. She's enjoying being a Cheerleader these days and having her school "fun" with all her "Cheers! I'm Sad to say. Mine, Doug's beloved infant daughter Suzie Lucille Bork died; May 1980 when she was still-born full term. he weighed 6 pds, 3 ounces. 20 inches long. I carried her nine months. One day while; I was pregnant with her. I had a regular OB routine check-up. "Suddenly. While I was at the doctor, unexpected complications arrised. I was admitted into the hospital. She was still born. There was silence in the air when she was delivered. The only crying heard was from me & family. It was a rainy day that afternoon of her birth. I felt like the rain was crying for her also. My heart was broken. My whole entire family was devistated. Our daughter Suzie Lucille Bork was a big loss to all of us. We love her and miss her "very" "very' much. She was a "very pretty little baby girl. She had black hair. I spent some time with her after she was born. I held her in my arms. I hugged her. I kissed her on the forehead and cheek. I told her; I loved her. She will be remembered "always. She is loved and missed "very" much by "everyone" in the family. She passed away in Tacoma WA, while, we were stationed at McCord Air Force Base. We had Suzie Lucille transported by plane to Oklahoma to be rested at Arlington memory Gardens Cemetery in Midwest City Oklahoma. In 2003;the Health Department removed my baby Suzie Lucille Bork from Baby-Land at the Cemetery. She is now relocated to another plot at Arlington Memory Gardens. I plan on being rested next to her "someday. She is that "Special" to me. Songs that;I picked out for my Beloved Infant Baby girl Suzie Lucille Bork are titled:The Rose-Bette Midler. These songs express my love for her. They remind me so very much of her. Song Artist: Conway Twitty also sings "The Rose. Listen to his version. Another melody that; I have picked out for my baby that reminds me of her is the original Song:The One That You Love-Air Supply. Our daughter; Suzie Lucille is our Little Angel in Heaven. I've always thought the church song called "Til we meet again is a "sweet" song also. Plus. Song: Amazing Grace. "Everytime; I hear these songs;I think of her. Now days. I'm living in Oklahoma. When me, Doug moved back to Oklahoma in 1982. We divorced a few years later in the mid 80's. If, you would like to listen to some songs that express mine & Dougs relationship through the years. These songs tell a familiar story. Doug was quite a "Player & "Charmer with those goodlooks of his. He was a "Heart-"Throb for every girl. He liked to have his cake and eat it too. A lot of people used to think he resembled actor/singer James Darren in the movie: Gidget Goes To Hawii. These songs express "Flashbacks with Doug."Enjoy listening to them. "Go For It." Song:Promises, Promises-The Naked Eye's. Doug made a lot of promises to me he didn't keep. Before and after our marriage. Time ran out. I gave up. Song:Travelin' Man-Ricky Nelson. It seems Doug always had some open arms waiting for him while he was TDY away from home. Song:Working My Way Back To You Babe-The Spinners. The song lyrics mention regretting having your cake and eating it too. And, yes. If Doug had been a man in reality. He would still be here with me. He let me down one to "many" times. His time ran out. Song:Stand By Your Man-Tammy Wynette. Song:D-I-V-O-R-C-E -Tammy Wynette. Reminds me of Our son Johnnie during our divorce. He was going on 4 years old. Song:Crazy-Patsy Cline."Flashbacks." Song:The One I Gave My Heart To-Aaliyah. Song:Careless Whispers-George Micheal. This song mentions. Time will never mend the careless whispers of a good friend. Song:How Much I Feel-Ambrosia. Mentions an untrue relationship that would be better parted. "Flashbacks. Song:Cool Night-Paul Davis. Mentions why the flowers had to die. During Doug's time in the Air Force with AWACS, he traveled the world. Our relationship weakened and came to an end. Song:She's Got You-Patsy Cline. This song reminds me of our high School days. It mentions High School days/A Class ring, pictures."And. His being with another woman now days. Doug gave me a wallet size picture from his 11th grade year in High School during his senior year in 1971. I still have it. On the back of this picture Doug printed these words with his drafting equipement: Cheryl. The "Good Times we'll have are "many. The"Bad Times; I hope are "few. Cheryl. "Always remember. I will "forever" Love"Only You. "Your Eternal Love Doug. Song:Heaven-Bryan Adams. "This song reminds me of Doug's "Love poem on the back of his school picture to me. Compare it to the song. I also, have a picture of me and Doug in our High School days when; I was Sweet-Sixteen during a time we went to "Six-Flaggs Over Texas" together. Doug was kissing me on the cheek and hugging me. I was shying out. I was"very"shy back then. Dougs on marriage number "three."I wish him and his Korean new bride "much" happiness."Cheers!" I got the best years with Doug. The best years were in our "High School Years. "Yeah." Mine, Dougs High School Days must have been some..."Once Upon A Time "Serious "Puppy Love" at one time. "Whoopie "Doo." Song:Do You Remember When We Met-The Honey Drippers. "Flashbacks. Of when Me/Doug met. I have to admit. Mine, Dougs High School days together are among our"best" years together. Those are the times;I like to remember. I admire those days of the 70's in High School as Teenage Sweet-Hearts. Other songs with"Fashbacks of me & Doug are: Bobby Vinton-Roses Are Red(My Love) This song is "very" touching. This song expresses a High School Sweet-Heart. After; I divorced Doug, he went far away; He settled in another State. I found someone new. I had another little girl by that other someone. My daughter Dez is almost grown now. She is going on 16. Dez is very pretty just like mine/Doug's daughter's. Song:Fool If You Think It's Over-Chris Rea. This song expresses a"Teenage Queen. An ending"Teenage Flame. Song:Sixteen Candles-The Crest. This song mentions a"Teenage Queen. This reminds me of my teenage days with Doug on my Sweet-Sixteenth Birthday. I started going with him at age 15. I expected 16 red roses with a "Big Sweet-Sixteen Lacey Card; I never got. I just got a plain "4x6" cartoon card that said: Automation will never replace. The next chance I got. I found myself flipping through a dictionary page after page looking for a meaning to this card. It didn't make any sense to me. I think it means "Machinery!" Whoo!" "What a way to express love to a girlfriend on her "Special "Sweet Sixteenth" Birthday. I felt like clobbering him that day. I was disappointed. I smiled through it though. Doug made a boo! Boo! with his selection of this card for my birthday."Remember now. "I was "Sweet-Sixteen." "Sweet-Sixteen is suppose to be every girls "Special" Birthday. "Oh by the way. I didn't waist anytime getting my driver's li...Expand for more
cense. I was "excited.Remember our driver's education classes with Mr. McCaskill. He lives in Oklahoma still. He still attends Dickson Baptist Church. Dickson Baptist Church was a popular church in the 1970's. A lot of teenagers and there family used to attend there. That is the church me and my sister and the rest of my family was a member of at the time. Brother Albright was a wondeful Preacher. I remember my sister Suzanne Wood called KOMA Ronnie-K to request the song: "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen-By:Neal Sadaka to be played for my Sweet-Sixteenth Birthday. This was while we were getting ready for school in the morning. My birthday landed on a school day. Song:65 love affair-Paul Davis. This song has "flashbacks" of old times with highschool friends. Boyfriend, girlfriend days. Song:S A T U R D A Y N I G H T - Bay City Rollers. Song:Before He Cheats-Carrie Underwood. ATTN:"This Song: Lady Down On Love-Alabama. This song over all, has familar flashbacks of our marriage/divorce days. more than ever. The lyrics in this song are so much like our last days together in our marriage. These lyrics mention a lady giving-up on her marriage. She has'nt been unmarried, on her own from the time she was 18. It mentions a husband, she once loved very much. He became unfaithful to her so, she ended the relationship with a divorce. This song is "very" touching. Listen to it. Song:This Old Heart-Rod Stuart This song mentions. Here for a day. Gone for a week. Reminds me of Doug's TDY military trips. Traveling being gone all the time. Having my doubts of him. Song:Out Of Nothing At All-Air Supply. Mentions waves in the hair. "Flashbacks"of Doug. Making Love out of nothing at all. We don't talk anymore-Cliff Richards. Song:I Wouldn't Have Missed It For The World-Ronnie Milsap. A reminder of our younger days. Our path. I wouldn't trade one memory. Mentions. You brought me so much sunshine. Love is the best its ever been. Song:Smokey Mountain Rain-Ronnie Milsap. This song reminds Doug of me. Song:Any Day Now-Ronnie Milsap. lyrics;I will hear you say "Goodbye My Love. Song:It Was Almost Like A Song-Ronnie Milsap. "Flashbacks!" January through September. It was such a perfect year. "All at once. You weren't here. Song:Crazy-Paul Davis."Flashbacks!"Getting over you was slow. Song:Heart 'N Soul-T'Pau. Flasbacks of faded love. Song:Heart of Glass-Blondie."Flashbacks of love fading away. Song:Same Old Lang Syne-Dan Folgleberg. This song is about running into an old lover in the Grocery store during Holiday Season. This song is from the Album called Inocence age 1981. Song:House Of Love-Amy Grant with Vince Gil. This song reminds me of Doug's lingering around off/on for a couple of years after our divorce before; I made it final that our realtionship was over. Song:Endless Summer Nights-Richard Marx. This song reminds me of some times of Doug during/after our divorce. "Oh. By the way. I like having my "freedom."Let it "ring." Maybe. Someday; I will decide to see if; I can find a man out there in the world that won't let me down like my former husband Doug did. Song:Sad to belong-New England Dan. This song reminds me of a guy; I broke up with to be with Doug. I remember. I actually broke this other guys heart so; I could be with Doug. I was with this other guy for almost 6 months. From May 1970 during the summer months. This guy was someone my friend Kari(Merriman)-Freeman fixed me up with. He was a nice person. He graduated from SSHS in 1972. Sometimes; I think about the broken heart; I gave him, breaking up with him to go steady with Doug. My friend Kari Merriman told me he was heart-broken. He never would talk to me ever again. He was so hurt. I chose to keep his name enonymous. Mine & Dougs three grown sons are serving in the military. "Two in "United States Marines and "One in "United States Airforce. I am "very" Proud of them. And of course. Daughter; Marie is in the "United States Navy. I am also saddened to say that; My Beloved Dad Clifford A. Wood who's home town is in Rush-Springs Oklahoma; Water Melon County, passed away on June 1, 2005. He was 85 years old. My dad is loved and missed "very" much by all his family and friends. He was a Retired "United States Marine. He Served his Country in WWII and the Korean War. He used to tell stories about the war to us four kids of his, other family and also, his friends. He had quite a story to tell us. He was among the 30,000 Marines who landed on the Southeast Mount Suribachi, at 546 feet the highest point on the island four days for the troops to scale. More than 6,800 United States Service men died in the five-week battle for the island. 21,000-man Japanese defense force was virtually wiped out. The Rosenthal iconic photo of the United States Marines raising the flag; was taken Febuary 23, 1945. This famous picture became the model for the Iwo Jima in 1954 and is known officially as the Marine Corps War Memorial, Commemorates the Marines died taking the Pacific island in WWII. After the funeral my dad Clifford was presented with a "21 Gun Salute by the "United States Marines during his Graveside Ceremony. Marines were standing "Salute, in silence at my dad's graveside. Eight Marines carried my dad to his final resting place. My brother Ret. USMC Clifford A. Wood Jr. was presented with the folded up "United States Flag. My dads last request was to be rested in his "United States Marine Uniform. We followed through with his request and wishes. "God Be With Him."May He Rest In "Everlasting Eternal Peace. Amen. My dad would have been;"So Proud to see those;"United States Marines standing "straight and "tall all around him with their colorful uniforms on with their USMC white hat and gloves on. I was very close to my dad. I miss him so very much. I was a daddy's girl. He called me "Sheryl Baby and "Baby Doll. We had a "Special friendship and bond throughout the years. He was "My buddy;"My pal. Most of all. He was My "Best" Friend! My dads birthday is the middle of May. In May of 1920 he was born out in the country in the little town of Rush-Springs Oklahoma in Grady County. Rush-Springs is located 20 miles east of Chickasha. Rush-Springs is home of the;Watermelon Festal every year in August at Jeff Davis Park. There is a Water Melon Queen crowned there every 2nd Saturday in August. Free water melon "all you can eat, served after 4:p.m. It ends at 6:p.m. My dad was a farmer and cattle rancher. he used to farm and groe produce. While we were children in the country in rush-springs with my dad we enjoyed those Rush-Springs Water Melon's. My Dear Sweet Beloved daddy grew up there in the little town of Rush-Springs Oklahoma. He was a Country boy. He later joined the "United States Marine Corps and made a long time career of it. He was "So Very Proud of it. Songs that remind me of my dad are: Snow Covered Hills-Fleetwood Mac. Song: 100 Years To Live-Five For Fighting. Song: In The Living Years-Mechanics. Two most favorite songs of my dads was: Song: Come Monday-Jimmy Buffet. Song: GOD BLESS THE USA-By: Lee Greenwood. My oldest brother Clifford JR, followed our dads foot steps "United States Marines 30 yrs. He retired as a Master Gunny SSGT. He was among the Viet Nam and the Dezert Storm War. He is now retired. My brother Walter Wood. 1968 Graduate of Star-Spencer High School, served in the "United States Navy out at sea in the Viet Nam War. He is now retired. As for my sister Suzanne (Wood) Mayeux SSHS Senior 1971. She's employed with the Medical Field. As for me. I'm working full time as a single parent, here in Oklahoma. I'm raising my daughter DeZ. She is now in her teens. I remember, being in the Pep Club, the bus trips on Friday nights going to other schools for Star-Spencer Football guys to compete against other teams. Being a Colorguard dancing and practicing with the high-school band. Being Student Council Reprentative, Being in Thespians,Drama,Speech. I had my fun with it. "Oh yes. Then there was the after football game favorite hangouts such as Pizza Parlor; Shakeys Pizza. "Especially, "Shotgun Sams Pizza Parlor. The color of the pizza parlor building was "RED. It had saloon swinging doors with a saloon appearance. It later became a Grandy's restaurant. "Next. It became a "Boomerrangs hamburger place. Now it's back to being a Grandy's restaurant again. Remember, the old lady at Shot Gun Sam's at the piano that used to play the song;Chewing Gum On The Bed Post Over Night. Everyone in the diningroom joined in and sang with her. There was also an open view from the dining room to watch the pizza being prepared. Pizza dough was twirled up in the air on hand. Where TG&Y used to be on 23rd and Douglas is now turned into a Mother Goose Flea Market. The red colored Restaurant called "Across The Street" is where me & Doug had our very first date. It is now called "Checkers Pub" Restaurant. I remember when me & Doug went on our very first date. We had a charburger french fries and a creamy milk shake. I was so shy back then that; I only took one bite. I was too shy to eat in front of him at the time. He kept staring at me. I sure was hungry for that burger though. There is a brand-new Super Wal*Mart at 23rd & Douglas. Also at 15th and Sooner Rd with a Home Depot across the street. There is a brandnew "HUGE" shopping center with numerous eating places and merchants including a large LOWES across from Tinker AFB now. Remember the SKY TRAIN Theater in Midwest City. It was turned into a "Night Club. It's gone now. The old shopping center that used to be across from Tinker AFB was all torn down to make way for the "huge"brandnew large shopping center. I remember my sister Suzanne and me used to buy clothes at Streets Clothing Store at the old shopping center. There is still a Drive-in theater at I-40 & Western remaining. Bye now. "Remember me."SSHS Senior 1973.
