Chip's Story

I have stayed right here in buena vista-just seemed like there was never any great reason to take off and move or experience the WORLD. While going to community college on the start of a 2-2 engineering degree i started working part-time at Food Lion.Well, about the time i was finishing my 2 years at com. college my store manager approached me and asked if i had considered a career with the company."NO" I replied very hastily starting to somehow feel the trap of a small town already offering me a way to take an easier path-"to not get out there in the real world". "Hey, people are ALWAYS going to eat-even if they pay for it or the gov.pays for it-ITS GREAT JOB SECURITY!!" Damn - i was already done and didnt even know it at the time!"Maybe a year off then back to school?!? Well, 21 years later,a wife of 12 years[been together over 18 years] a great 9 year old son and beautiful,IDENTICAL-AND I MEAN EXACTLY IDENTICAL(kinda freaked me out for the first few months)twin girls and i'm still living in our great home town. It always makes me think of the christmas movie Its a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stuart. Had the chance to finish college -was about 11 hours from military service(man,I was so pumped by the recruiter-tested out great(ocs)and I was going to be an Army Ranger Scout - but my dad -who was in the military-pulled me aside and got tears in his eyes and said dont - it just doesnt feel right-once again kinda fr...Expand for more
eaked out but no military . Had a few chances to move within the company but WHEN YOU GET DOWN TO IT i am the poster boy for family man. My world and my experences are all wrapped around my family right here in B.V. I would not want to raise a family anywhere else but here-safe-quite-slow pace-still great schools with the greatest teachers in the world (GO MR. EVANS) Hey, i still love the great small town feel and all the memories here. Took my kids to the playground at Enderly back in the fall, stood outside Mr Brinkleys second grade class room and you know what ,there was a smell, dont know what it was but i swear i flashed back and for a second we were all there again, with all the innocense that we see in our own children, GAVE ME CHILLS IT WAS SO REAL -AHHH its great to still live here -questioned if i made the right decisions along the way sometimes but when i can walk around and show my babies where i sit in the first grade and tell them the stories about our adventures through our school years -YEAH, LIFE HAS BEEN GOOD!!!And anyway, the whole rest of the world sits just around the corner of my dinning room on a little table, and to tell you the truth the way it is getting today thats about as close as i want it!! HEY BEEN OUT OF TOUCH FOR YEARS - JUST BEING FAMILY GUY. HOPE ALL MY CLASSMATES ARE DOING GOOD AND ENJOYING LIFE WHERE EVER YOU ARE. I'LL TRY TO LOOK YOU GUYS UP NOW AND THEN AND SWAP SOME STORIES.
