Chris's Story

After graduating from Granite Hills I attended SDSU and Grossmont College for nine years while working and putting myself through school. After I FINALLY got my BA in Liberal Studies, I attended UC Berkeley for a year to get my teaching credential. That was a great year! I went on to get my Masters in Educational Technology at National University in 2004. I taught 3rd, 5th and 6th grade at Dehesa Elementary School. I then went to the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District and taught 4th and 5th grade at Rolando Elementary School. Next I spent four years working as a technology resource teacher for the school district. When I got bored with that, I spent four more years teaching technology and media at La Presa Middle School in Spring Valley...Expand for more
. In July of 2010, I packed up my life and moved to Kanab, Utah, to work at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. I met my future wife while working there, and we were married in 2015. Last year (2020) we both retired. We moved to Santa Fe, NM, with our four dogs. We spend a lot of time traveling in our trailer - with the dogs, of course! I also do a lot of volunteer work. I am a CASA (court appointed special advocate) for children in foster. I am currently organizing an online auction fundraiser for the Street Homeless Animal Project (SHAP). And I am a Neighborhood Watch block captain Retirement has also freed up time for me to explore different crafts, such as crochet, weaving, candle making, and learning how to use my Cricut.
