Chris's Story

Born in Dania, FL and have lived in Broward County my entire life. I did spend 6 years in the US Navy away from home but never change my home of residence. Pretty boring I guess but that's me. Lived in Hallandale across the street from Hallandale Elementary till I was 12. Attended Hallandale Elementary 6 years and Hallandale Jr High for 7th grade only. We moved to western Ft. Lauderdale at that time where we lived on a horse ranch for the next two years. Attended Rogers Jr High for 8th grade and for 9th I was part of the class that opened Miramar High. Yes I do remember split shifts at McArthur High. And I remember being one of the first people to enter Miramar High. Before I started the 10th grade we move again. This time to a place called Lake Forest. I am part of the Lake Forest group but because I was already 14 years old by then, I didn't get to know many of the long time, I grew up there Lake Forester's. Some of you may remember me but most probably won't. Continued to attend Miramar High while living here. During this time is when I met my future wife Patti, she lived a couple of blocks down the street. That's a whole story to itself. Could not wait to finish High School and get away from that enviorment. Sorry to say that High School was the worst time of my life. I was a 98 pound string bean with no spine. Didn't take much to intimidate me and a few individuals did. Most of the rest just ignored me since I was such a misfit. Glad the rest of life isn't like that. After High School I started working right away. I had taken Vocational classes in High Sch...Expand for more
ool and worked as a bench tech for a local electonics manufacturer called Sunair Electronics. They mostly did aircraft radios but other communications equipment as well. At this point I thought I had the world by the tail. I was making good money (for a 18 year old kid) and was able to pay my entire rent with one paycheck. Had my own car and a motorcycle (for when the car wouldn't start, Ha Ha!) I was gonna be OK! Did I mention I had my own apartment. Yeah, that was after my father gave me the ulimatum. Either pay rent to live in his house or go to BCC and he would pay for a couple years more of school. I don't like being given choices and will almost always find an alternate to any ones you give me. Character flaw I guess. So I moved out and rented a nice little one bedroom apartment on Sherman Street near Federal Highway. Very convienient for my job that was near the Ft. Lauderdale airport. I also continued to date and break up with my girlfriend Patti. I think we both knew we were soul mates but our communications skills were not good enough yet. I was very introverted and had almost no experience with girls. I think she was not to sure what she could say at times too. Almost killed our marriage at times later as well. Glad that's behind us now and we are closer thatn ever. We are soul mates. A few months after the last time Patti and I broke up I deceided to make a clean break and join the Navy and see the world. So I did in October of 1976 I left for boot camp on the train from Miami to Orlando. Yes, I went to boot camp at Disney World. To Be Continued....
