Chris's Story

Yikes, this could be looooong! Let's see, had my daughter, Dayna, in January 1983. Stayed in Canon for a couple of years, went to Pueblo College of Business for accounting. Then ALL of my family moved back to OK. Since I wanted my daughter to have a great relationship with her grandparents, I moved back there too :( I hated to leave Canon, but with no family there whatsoever, it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. Moved to Muskogee, OK (yep, just like in the song!) Met & married my 1st husband. Stayed in Muskogee for several years, ran a video store, did the accounting etc. Moved to Tulsa for a short time and was the Asst Manager of an apartment complex. Had a son, Matthew, who thank goodness had my dark eyes and hair! (My daughter looks just like her Dad, with blue eyes and light hair). Moved back to Muskogee and worked for a man that had his hands in just about everything. He taught me more about accounting (especially the creative kind!) than any school had. I ran a mini storage facility, was an agent for US Cellular and did the accounting and payroll for 5 other businesses that he had. All for the bargain price of $6.50 per hour! LOL First hubby felt he needed to clear his conscience (or it could have been the cocaine!!!) and told me that he had messed around on me several times, at least once being with someone we both hung out with. Kicked him to the curb, got a divorce, lost about 75 pounds and was ready to start a new chapter. I tried to get my boss to let me manage the facility that he had in Broken Arrow, but he said nope. So, moved to Broken Arrow anyway and started work with US Cellular in the very first call center of theirs. Was interesting, but we got phone calls from very upset New Yorkers, and that is NOT fun! LOL I decided to get a job that was more geared for the bean counting that I love so much. Started work for an oil/gas company on the 29th floor in Downtown Tulsa. Got mixed up with the wrong crowd and lost even more weight ;) In 1995 I worked for a law office, doing accounting for one of their clients. They were very similar to Robert Tilton (he was another *client* of theirs) as far as Evangelist go. They would spend well over a million bucks a month on nothing. *I* think that there was some money laundering going on. I couldn't stomach the tons of boxes of personal items that people would send in to get *blessed*, that were just haphazardly thrown in a room, so I left after just a year. Was plenty of time to gather evidence for the IRS tho! :) I came to the realization that if I didn't get away from these fast friends, it would be the death of me, so I up and moved to Claremore, very small town about 30 minutes from Tulsa. I did some temporary jobs at some big companies in Tulsa for a few years, then got really tired of driving back & forth. I met my current hubby as soon as I moved there, only problem was, he was married at the time. He got divorced from his 2nd wife after he discovered that she was writing hot checks to everyone in town, even the liquor stores and bingo halls! He is a recovering alcoholic but she didn't mind bringing tons of alcohol into the house and being drunk every day. We've been together since 1998, but didn't marry until 3/2001. I got a job doing Payroll at a manufacturing plant, where hubby worke...Expand for more
d of course ;) Did that until the company closed. Hubby told me to just stay home for a while, so I did. I got bored very quickly, so started out making candles. Then that evolved into all natural soap making. I managed to open my own little shop, Scents Appeal in 1998. I moved to a larger location right on Historic Rt. 66. I expanded into making all natural body lotions, face creams, pain rub etc. I also carried tumbled stones and crystals, which then led to my jewelry making frenzy! I built my own website and made all of the products I sold as well. We got married in 3/01 and hubby (Mike) lost his Mom in 6/01 to a brain tumor. He was an only child, so he had a very hard time dealing with her death. My back had bothered me for most of my adult life, so after talking with an Orthopedic surgeon, he advised me that if I bent over the wrong way, I could snap my spine in half! So, had back surgery 3/02, just 1 day after our 1 year anniversary. Sadly, he screwed up and left a chunk of disc and bone fragments that sawed on my sciatic nerve for 5 weeks of the most horrendous pain I had ever experienced. Went back 5 weeks to the day and had to have another surgery. He took out the hardware on my left side and found the extra *stuff* and removed it. For whatever reason, he felt that after only 5 weeks postop, my fusion should be stable enough so that I didn't need the left side hardware. Be very wary of Ortho's in general when it comes to your back! Always go to a Neurosurgeon! I had to close my shop several times for these surgeries, and again in 2003 when I got the right side hardware out.....I used a Neuro this time. I think I was a little ahead of my time (for this small town anyways) so even though sales were still good and getting better every year, I knew that Hubby wanted to buy our first home together. So I offered to close the shop and find a job so we could do that. Then he thought that I should just stay home again. It didn't matter to the bank, so we bought our first home in 2005. I still have customers that purchase the soaps, eye creams etc as well as the jewelry. I hang out with some people in Norman, OK and they hooked me up with vending at Belly Dance events and Medieval Fair every year. I get to hang out & watch all of the strange goings on that are expected at Med Fair and I make money too. I hope to get a site up again soon. It's on my list! We went to Mike's HS reunion in KY and it really got me thinking about my old school buddies. Just for giggles, I checked on Karen Krug and Sophie Cornell on Classmates and wouldn't you know, there was Karen! When I emailed her, she just about fell over, because she had thought that I was dead for the last 6 years! In July I hopped in my Vibe and drove straight through to Parker, CO and there was Karen waiting outside in her driveway with a Bud Light in her hand! LOL Some things never change! I stayed for 9 days and shuffled between her & Soph, went to Canon and got to visit with Terri Solano. Was the best 9 days I had had in years! Made me very homesick for the mountains tho :( My son will be 18 in April and recently found out that my folks are moving to TN, so I guess my obligation of making sure that my kids knew their grandparents is almost done! Who knows, I may end up back in CO for my old fart years!!!
