Chris's Story

Life Hello everyone, I entered SWT in the fall of '77, transferred to UT Austin in '81, and graduated in '82 with a BBA in marketing. Upon graduation I lived, worked, and played music in Austin for 9 years, formed my own band in '88, which is also the year that I got married. In '91 I made the move to Nashville and have been living here ever since. In '94 my wife and I separated. We divorced in early 96. The next few years were a difficult time in my life. I entered a period of soul searching, career reassessment, and personal growth. By the time the new millennium rolled around, I was 41 and still waiting tables. I gave myself until mid-year for something to happen. In mid-April I was approached by Anita Cochran, a recording artist for Warner Brothers, and offered an audition to tour with her band. I auditioned, got the job, and spent most of the year touring all over the country. It was just an INCREDIBLE year for me! In 2001 Anita didn't tour, but we did play a few choice dates, including a couple of shows in Zurich, Switzerland, as well as an opener for Stevie Wonder in downtown Detroit in front of over 1.5 million people. On the romantic front, this time was also the beginning of what would become a 5 year relationship with Sas, whom some of you met at our 25th Reunion in 2002. Sas and I were in a relationship for 5 years which ended 5 years ago and was, to say the least, very difficult. However, the unexpected, but incredible blessing from that relationship is my 5 year old little girl who is just beautiful and is the absolute LOVE of my life. I am a Daddy for the first time and am SO LOVING it. I share custody with Sas and we split each week 50/50 and have been doing so for almost 5 years now. I currently work for The B...Expand for more
elle Meade Country Club in Nashville, which has been around for about 105 years and is the top rated private club in TN and one of the top 20 in the nation. I still do my music occasionally, and always will, but mostly it has been in my living room these days, although I do plan to start playing out more this year now that Ella Rose is in school and my work schedule has a lilttle more flexibility. However, I have had some incredible musical experiences in the last 20 years, especially when I was on tour with several major label artists and traveling all over the country, and even to Europe. I had the time of my life and would not trade those experiences for anything (except for my daughter of course!) By the way, her name is "Ella Rose". (Rose is my Mom's name) She and my step dad, Ed Haberstroh (Steve's Dad) are still married and live in Floresville, TX in a nice home out in the country. My Dad has been remarried and divorced twice now and still lives in Beaumont. My brother Randy lives in Houston and got married for the first time in 2009, my brother Scott lives in Dallas and married his old high school sweetheart,Terri (Salter), in 2003, and my youngest brother Kirk lives in San Diego, CA and got married for the first time in 2006. I like to joke that I was the first one of my brothers to get married and now I'm the only one who's not...lol. Anyway, believe it or not Ella Rose is Mom's FIRST grandchild (and a girl at that!), so needless to say she is thrilled to FINALLY be a grandma and is absolutely smitten with Ella Rose. This will be one "spoiled" granddaughter! Well...that's the "cliff notes" version of my life for the past 30 years. I'd love to hear what any of you have been up to if you care to share. Take care, Chris
