Chris's Story

There are some people whom I'd love to reconnect with at Miraleste. I was a social misfit at MHS, due to that I didn't grow up in the area and didn't know a soul there before 1983. Californian schools were a bit of a novelty also. I think MHS was sort a rich-kid wanna-be school. Some played their roles to the hilt and a few were more down to earth. --- Since MHS, life has been a really twisted roller-coaster ride. I went to college in Riverside for a while and then took off to Europe for a few years. I lived and worked in Switzerland, France and Italy. I worked at a Christian radio/television station and then started a communications business on the Côte d'Azur (the French Riviera). It was a blast, being young, away from parents and basically making ends meet in a completely foreign environment. I didn't speak a lick of French or Italian before I arrived, but wanting to eat and keep the electricity on is a great motivator. I left the whole Christian thing behind, finding out that it was more important being a good, decent person and not needing the constraints of an organized religion to tell me how to think. --- I since changed my metier to something that allows me to still travel, without incurring the expenses of living abroad. I have been a flight attendant for American Airlines now for 17+ years. I fly both domestically and to inter...Expand for more
national destinations. I can now speak/read/write seven languages fluently, though I can say that second year Spanish at MHS, by no means helped in that regard (sorry Mr. Hall, you don't speak Spanish). --- I have had two brain tumors (benign) and have managed to fight through both of them! Can you say "oligodendroglioma?" ~ that's a $5 Scrabble word! --- I have since found the man of my life ~ Doug. He and I have been together for some five years and I plan to be with him the rest of my life. We're tossing around the idea of getting "married"; but are going to do it in a country that does not flip-flop around on the gay marriage issue (specifically Vancouver, Canada). We travel a lot and love seeing the world He grew up a lot more sheltered than I did, so I have a ton to show him of the great, big world. Palos Verdes is not the sort of place that welcomes people "coming out"; something that I didn't recognize in myself until I was 19, living in France. Well before I bore you with more of my inane recollections, I'll close up shop and get some housework done. Feel free to reconnect ~ I love seeing where others lives have gone since 1987! CN P.S. I now use the name "Nic", short for "Niç'oné" (a Cherokee name bestowed on me by my great grandfather). It means wander, traveler, voyageur and by Cherokee tradition, you grew up into your name.
