Chris's Story
Life
Living in NY is great.
I finally got out of the south.
School
I graduated class of 1986. You may have seen me show up for the occasional football game with red and white face paint on. Other than that, my attempt was to stay mostly anonymous. Almost ironic considering my career path took me into radio broadcasting in the army and in the commercial realm.
Workplace
Currently working as Operations and Training for the 361st Public Affairs Operations Center in Ft Totten, NY. It's located in Queens. Our unit is based on Media Facilitation, which means that in a combat zone, we are the ones that set up the media briefings and/or get commercial media out to the troops in the field.
Military
Basic training at Ft McClellan, Alabama from April to June of 1987.
First MOS school at Lowry AFB in Denver, Colorado from July 1987 to February 1988. Originally trained as a 26T, Audio Visual System Repair Technician. It later changed code to 25R.
Ft Bragg, NC March 1988 to October 1989.
Seoul, Korea October 1989 to September 1990.
Ft Gordon, GA October 1990 to December 1994. Worked in the Educational Television Branch from Oct 90 to Jun 92, then moved to the Public Affairs Office where I maintained the post radio station. Totally rewired the place a...Expand for more
nd installed new equipment. When there was nothing that needed fixing, I did video stories for the post TV news and wrote for the post paper.
December 1994 I joined the 209th Broadcast Operations Detachment(BOD) from Rome, GA. A reserve radio and TV broadcasting unit. Went to Ft Ben Harrison, IN to change my MOS to 46R, Broadcast Journalist. Deployed to Bosnia in December 1995 to August 1996 on the first rotation of US troops in Operation Joint Endeavor. Did the morning show on AFN Bosnia.
February 1999 went back to active status as full time support for the Reserves and was sent to the 206th BOD in Dallas, TX. It was a brand new unit that I helped to get rolling. We deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom in the summer of 2005 to August 2006 directly to Baghdad where I did 6-10 PM on AFN Baghdad playing classic rock for everyone over there. We broadcast throughout all of the Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom combat zones.
February of 2007 I finally managed to fight my way out of Texas and transferred to the 361st Public Affairs Operations Center (PAOC) in Queens, NY.
