Christi's Story

I hope that I am remembered period! I had to leave Shawnee January 1, 1984 & didn't get to graduate with all the people that I had grown up with. At the time, of course, my life was over! Moved to Nashville, TN (or just south of) & ended up in a SNOBBY, preppy, did I mention Snobby? High School. Anyone that knew me then & knows me know will not argue the fact that preppy, prim and proper were not any of my stonger qualities. Jeans, Snoopy boxers, cut-off t-shirts & flip-flops were & are a little more my style. I went from Comfort over fashion in Shawnee USA to ARGILE HELL! Needless to say, I didn't blend in with the locals. As much as I hated the whole ordeal, I am glad that I did get the chance to meet some people before summer & make some of the best friends that I never thought would have been possible considering the differences in me &... well, the majority of the people at this new school. I did survive it (obviously-with speacial thanks to Mike Malone in OK & Jay Self & Mike Moss in TN: where are you now?) & I'm glad that I came when I did or my entire life would be completely different. I've been so many places, done so many things & had so many opportunities that I would have missed out on had I not left, but I wouldn't change my High School years in Shawnee for anything. Most people will probably remember me as always in trouble & grounded, a little on the wild side & those that knew me well will remember GERN! I HOPE people remember the parties, the fun, the floats & the friendships... because that's what I remember most! I always wanted to be a Designer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a a good possibility idea. As it turns out, they were right & wrong. I graduated from O'More College of Design w/ a degree in Interior Design. If I had only know then what I know now, I would have gone into Architecture; but this gave me the best of both worlds... for awhile! When homes aren't selling and businesses aren't booming, there's not alot of call for Designers... so I bought a house built in the 1800's & now I have a full time job for the rest of my life! However, knocking down walls & and ripping up floors (of your own home) doesn't pay the bills. Go figure! So I'm depending on my next passtion... animals (mostly dogs, but all animals). I'm publishing a book titled "Happy Tails Tell Happy Tales". This book is like a diary/journal for your dog. He/she tells the stories of all the special memories & milestones of thier life; including pictures, 1st times, & tons of amazing things we have & love our dogs for. It has been so fun & exciting - not to mention that I'm a foster Mom for pets too, so that just leads to more TALES. Dogs Lovers - please visit DogsRFamily2 dot com -(can't use addresses) I'm just getting set up (June 2009), but Mention "1984" & we'll work out a discount!! Favorite way to relax? What is relax? Is this a new word, I'm not familiar with it. LOL - Walking Dogs of course! It's probably my favorite time of the day, because I know it's their's! Right now I only have 3, the norm has been 5 for several years; wolf hybrids. The father was wolf/husky(80 lbs.), the mother wolf/shepard(120 lbs.) & she had 8 (5 pounds a piece) puppies, we kept 2. Last summer I lost the father & female pup (140 lbs.), the mother died in 2004, so now I only have the male pup(Thor - 195 lbs of massive dog) left of the wolves; but after becoming a Foster Mom for Dogs, I've rescued 2 that I ended up adopting. Roxi, a yellow lab (90 lbs.) & just last month I adopted LuLu, a Black lab/chow mix, she looks alot like Thor's Mother, but only 68 lbs. To most you that's probably a good size dog, but around here, she just looks so petite! (If anyone is interested in fostering pets-dogs, cats, S/M/L, please let me know, we need families all over the states for an unbelievable amount of animals. Many animals are losing their families because the families are losing their homes. Short term or long term, EVERY volunteer is appreciated! Email TopDog at DogsRFamily2 dotcom if you're intersted. The Wildest Thing I ever did IN school? Take your pick... during school hours, you can choose from #1: Ordering a Pizza in Miss Gilbride's Class during my Spicoli days, #2: My Famous Chewed Gum collection kept on the inside of my locker or #3: Getting High during DECA's career day where I dressed up like a 5 year old (pigtails, fr...Expand for more
eckles & draggin Snoopy around by the arm) & set up a lemonade stand at the expo center with the "REAL booths promoting REAL jobs"-then having to go back to Mrs. Oppegard's Government class where John Winterringer kept me giggling the entire class! Wildest thing NOT during school hours, I probably shouldn't even go there - if classmates screen these bios, they'd have to bleep out the majority of the section - but thanks to everyone that helped make those memories!! My Hero?Snoopy of course! But everyone already knew that, so I'll pick another that, believe it or not, can top Snoopy and that would be my Dad! He is the greatest man I know. I don't know how he did it, but he always managed to inspire me, believe in me & even LOVE me after all the Hell I put my parents through. I'm sure everyone is familiar with my track record of trouble & being grounded; I'm suprised they let me live to tell about the trouble that I caused, But he never gave up on me, always encouraged me, & to this day can chase all my blues away, even when they turn purple, or worse... Black. I'm know that I'm one of the luckiest people alive to have had such a wonderful man in my life, & the best part is I still get to call him "Daddy"! Quick notes on where I've lived: from Shawnee to Nashville, TN. During College, I took off a semester or 2 & toured w/ Lee Greenwood, the Gatlin Brothers & Earle Thomas Conley. My Dad had the concessions (t-shirt, etc) for those bands, so my cousin & I (Nicole Smith, she was in Shawnee around 1978-80 or so)went on the road travelling the entire US! What a blast! It was an incredible experience, met so many people, when so many places, saw amazing things - wouldn't trade it for anything! I did learn during that time why my Dad was so insistant upon me NOT dating musicians; I could be one, just couldn't date them. It was at that time that I realized he was just trying to keep me from getting my heart broken. Let's just say that... most men can't (or won't) say NO when females become sexually aggressive. I'm not sure what it is about musicians that girls find so, so... ooooo throw your panties on the stage! But they just lose it, & guys just have a hard time (no pun intended) saying NO. So from there I moved to Tampa, FL. then further south to Lehigh Acres, FL (for the newly weds and nearly deads - retirement town, the sidewalks rolled up at 8pm - long story, but good experiences, so worth it!), then to Gaffney, SC for a short time, then Back to Nashville, Franklin, TN actually, but it's only about 15 miles from Nashville. What can I say, I love it here. Great seasons, beautiful during spring & fall, I'd like a little more snow, but it's better than 90 degrees on Christmas day in FL. Obsessions: Snoopy would be at the top of the list along with my dogs. Some people would go so far as to say I'm a Snoopy Freak, but I look at it as a wonderful & fun collection. (OK, so my Christmas Tree has over 400 Snoopy ornaments on it, & I get an embroidery machine so that I could embroider Snoopy on all my clothes like the "L" on Leverne's sweaters of Leverne & Shirly - I don't have any kids, so this keeps me young, fun, I'm very easy to shop for!) If I could remodel my home?? MMMM, well, I've been doing that for about 12 years now. We knew it was a "fixer-upper" when we bought the house - no questions! And we've been working on it ever since! I've completely gutted & remodeled the kitchen, dining room, sunporch and guest bath. I learned how to lay tile, glass block, rewire the kitchen, install ceiling fans, A/C, knock out walls & install doors, but one thing I haven't learned to do is to lay hardwood floors. After that, I'd like to level the garage (it's 2" too short to install a garage door opener)and make the garage bigger with a bonus room over it & REGULAR stairs to go up. Right now, on the inside of my house, the only way to get upstairs is by spiral staircase. This is not as easy task if you're trying to haul ANYTHING up or down. Bad planning on previous owner. Had to build stairs and a deck to get the furniture in upstairs - so that would definitely be on the list. College: different than most. Private & small. Started with 36 in my class & graduated with 6. They really knew how to weed them out! Have to stop at question #16 - out of time. Hope to finish soon & to hear from any of you still out and about! Happy Everything - Ya'll
