Christi's Story

* 2 yrs L-C State College * 25 yrs Pathologists' Regional Lab - Computer Systems' Administrator * 3 yrs Creason, Moore, Dokken & McIntosh - Computer System Manager * July 2000 Retired diagnosed with Relapsing/Remitting Multiple Sclerosis - managing well with weekly injections of Avonex. * At Present - Prepare PowerPoint presentations for Sunday worship at First Presbyterian Church, Clarkston, WA We have "Second Saturday Mission Day" where we get a list from InterLink of needs of people in the community. We meet at the church at 7:00 for breakfast; pack a sack lunch; and head to our asigned project. This "Second Saturday Mission Day" has enabled 75 people in our church to be missionaries; instead of the 15-25 who go across the country or across the border. It has really sparked a special joy in people being served and serving. Bob and I were able to go to Tecate, Mexico for a week June 14, 2009 to work in an orphanage for 30 boys. We remodeled an old dorm, built bunkbeds, and ran Vacation Bible School. The boys are happy, grateful, and loved by the couple who takes them in. Rancho San Juan Bosco runs on a shoestring and a prayer. We got in touch with them through World Servants. July 2010 we traveled to Yakutat, Alaska to re-side the pastor's home, Cedar siding doesn't last forever in a rain forest so we stripped the cedar and replaced it with aluminum siding. Rained 75% of the time we were there. They don't have fireworks displays because it never gets dark in July. Things you do...Expand for more
n't think about, but make perfect sense. June 2011 allowed us the opportunity to construct two storage buildings at our church camp, Camp Spalding on Davis Lake north of Spokane. New shower stalls were added and recycling signs were painted. It was the week of Music & Arts. We were serenaded wherever we were working. July 2012 Our former Youth Director became a Commissioned Lay Pastor to the small Presbyterian Church in Bovill, ID. We spent a week, painting the sanctuary, Sunday School Room, cleaning the attic, organizing files and library, chipping out sidewalk and ramp and re-pouring both. Helped with community relations by pouring picnic table pads and repair flowerbed wall. Organized a celebratory potluck. July 2013 This year Bob and our son, Rob, went to Elizabeth, NJ to help with repairs due to Hurricane Sandy. The basic services have been restored and most of the demolition has been done. That's the first Phase in recovery and that is where the bulk of money goes. The people who are now helping are, for the most part, faith-based volunteers. The site coordinator for the week our crew was there, was in charge of 245 individuals. So if you feel inspired to help, the need is great. The cost: airline ticket, sleep in church on air mattress/food $30 daily, transportation to your job site, $200 cost of materials (insurance is exhausted/no one has money), Bring your own tools = (one suitcase=storage tub). DO NOT GO IN JULY! It was over 100 degrees and the humidity was !!!
