Life Hi too all my friends in Beckley,its been a long time since I left Beckley. I went in the Navy in 1952 after leaving school at woodrow wilson in the tenth grade, I was stationed In Bainbridge Maryland for boot training. after boot camp I spent two years at Pensacola naval air station in Florida. I served as a plane captain, and life guard in special services for two years,1952-1954. after my tour of duty at pensacola, I was then transfered to sea duty,I was asighned too the air craft carrier at Portsmouth Virginia at the ship yard where the USS Intrepid cva 11 was being recomissioned,and sent too gitmo bay cuba for a shake down cruise , then we left for a six month cruise to Europe, visiting six countries and thirteen ports and cities, we went as far as the black sea off the coast of Istanbul Turkey not far from Russia; this was during the korean conflect. also made two carribean cruises and was assigned to the third division and served on the flight deck as a plane captain. It was an exciting experience, and I loved every minute of it,( go navy) well so much for my military career, after my discharge in 1956. iI went to Boonton new Jersy to join my family, my father had been a coal miner, and he was not able to to support a family on two or three days work, so he moved to New Jersey, while I was in the navy. I worked for Air craft radio corp for five years before getting laid off, for lack of goverment contracts, thanks too president Esinhower after he was elected. so I moved on to going too cosmotolegy school and became a hair stylist, I graduated from the wilfred academy of hair design in Newark New Jersey, and was employed by lord and Taylor department store and Charles of the Ritz beauty salon, at B. Altman department store in Short Hills New Jersey, I also was involved in fast pitch soft ball in a city league, and played a lot of golf. I met my wife Christina Alfano at the golf range in 1960, and married in 1961, we had two daugters...Expand for more
