Christina's Story
I was so shy and quiet in school that when I grew up and had a son on the autism spectrum I didn't notice that his behavior was not "normal" as it seemed perfectly normal to me.
I always wanted to be a math teacher when I grew up. As a graduate student in math, I was a TA, and afterward taught for one semester. After that I turned into a semi-professional singer, and then a full time mommy. After the children had mostly grown up I became a Christian Science practitioner, and now advertise in the Christian Science Journal.
One day when I was 11, some girls were talking about what sort of man they would like to marry. Some said "tall, dark, and handsome," some said, "tall, blond, and handsome," some said, "love at first sight." I remained quiet. I talked this over with my grandmother, and commented that "tall" is not the measure of a man, as far as what is important about him; whether dark or blond, if the marriage lasts the man will gray or go bald anyway; and "handsome" is in the eyes of the beholder, and since I had met older women while out with my mother who would show us pictures of their husband or introduce us to the man, saying, "Isn't he handsome," and all I saw was an old man. I figured that "love at first sight" does not mean anything for the long haul, as my parents had fallen in love with each other at first sight, and were not still together. So I told my grandma that I wanted to marry a man who was strong and sweet in all the non-physical ways, like the tea she would give me to drink. That night it came to me very strongly in a dream that whe...Expand for more
n I was 20 I was going to meet a man named David who had red hair and brown eyes and Russian parentage, and even if I didn't want to be seen with him at first, we would become best friends and get married when I was 26, and we would have a daughter, a son, and a third child. There was more to this vision, and the important part is that it all came true just as it had come to me.
And my dear sweet husband is now both bald and grey and has an extraordinarily kind face.
We gained a son-in-law in 2007, and became grandparents in 2013!!!! All the other grandparents in the class I'm sure know how wonderful and exciting this is. . We are having our dream retirement home built near our daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter.
Our middle child is in Japan until next August as an assistant language teacher.
Our youngest son lives with us because he is on the autism spectrum and socially/emotionally still a little kid as well as the brilliant and handy young man he is otherwise.
I have had experience as a Hebrew day school mom, a private school mom, a public school mom, and a homeschooling mom.
We have a small standard poodle, aka moyen poodle or klein poodle, who is three years old now, and a British short hair cat who is nearly eleven years old.
We have sold our house, so this move to be near our daughter and granddaughter is becoming much more real.
July, 2016 update. We moved into our new house two months after we moved out of our old house last summer. Our youngest son Jonathan loves the house. (11/10/1987 - 12/3/2015 ) Jonathan Emmanuel Grinstein-Camacho.
