Christine's Story

Shortly after graduation, I moved to Washington State. I married and raised two sons. I was divorced 5 years ago and have shed my impossible to pronounce or spell German married name. I work as a program manager for an aerospace company. I am currently finishing up a year long project in South Korea. Living in a small town in Korea has been a very interesting experience. There are very few women in the work force here and when I first arrived the men weren't very comfortable taking instruction from a woman. I was encouraged to "go shopping". Being along in a foreign country for nearly a year has given me a lot of time to think about how important and influential the people in my life have been. I have been thinking of all of the wonderful people I have lost touch with over the years. It has been fun to sign on to this site and see some familiar faces and to remember many of you. After my year in South Korea, I spent the next in Moscow Russia. Talk about culture shock! The Russian people were great. The country is very controlled. ould ever want to live in. Red Square was in walking distance and St. Basil's Cathedral was really something to experience. Siberia was an experience in itself. We were there in March and the high temperature was 17 deg. below. We were worked in a restricted base just outside the town of Komsomolsk. Thankfully I had a team of wonderful people to travel with so the extremes were actually not so bad. We came out of there with a lot of funny stories. One task was to ready a plane for the Paris airshow and it was completed on a restricted military base about 2 hours outside of Moscow. We were driven to our work area inside a bus that had curtains on the windows. We were not allowed to look out of the windows. We were not allowed to leave the hanger without escort. Some times they would position large vehicles along the windows so we could not see outside and would restrict us to the building for periods of time. We worked inside an airplane inside the hanger and the temperatures were over 100 degrees inside the plane. It was really miserable conditions to be working in. I was fortunate I didn't have to be inside the plane. The poor mechanics with me were not so lucky. I am very happy to be home now. I have a real appreciation for the life we have in the United States.
