Christine's Story
I have finally come to a very peaceful part of my life, despite the sad death of my last (boyfriend) colleague, and best friend. I just think teaching at Poly finally got to him!
Frankly, I'm glad to be out of Public School teaching, though it gave me much reward. I now teach International Students in the summer, who are great, who
are glad to be in America for a while, delightful to be around and have a whole different perspective on life than my former students.
The rest of the time I paint, do a little gardening and visit my two beautiful daughters when they are here, (meaning Santa Monica). I support Charlie Moore's Algalita Marine Research Foundation by volunteering and painting .
My whole inspiration for my profession came from Madam Burchard, at Wilson High. My other inspiration, in art, was my dad, and then, of course Maynard Kaminsky and my dear friend Jane Hollenbeck Creed.
I have lived in Paris, France, San Francisco, Santa Rosa, Boston, Mass, and New York for a short time, oh yes, and Ohio. I loved selling my hand-painted bracelets to boutiques in those places, especially Paris. I just felt it was such an adventure, plus, I could pass out money to my friends, because I would sell a bracelet for $5.00 , (maybe 5 per day!), to American tourists, then dress up and go out into the cafe' scene. That was a really good time, but I did have to return home due to the snow. Can you believe that? Snowing in Paris! When I got back i married Steven Maki, from the Boston area, but the marriage didn't last. One "fish out of water" guy marrie...Expand for more
d to a girl from California: both too young.
So then I moved to San Francisco, briefly, and finished school at Sonoma State,
which I visited this summer. Cotati still has the flavor, but divided, like between
upscale yuppies and bikers.....I fit somewhere in the middle. This trip gave me a chance to reminisce... I loved so much playing "Alice" in the first production on that beautiful new stage...such wonderful experiences back in the day. Many bands and singers would practice up there, even one day I had the priviledge of singing with Joan Baez...it just happened! FUN...!
I finally stayed in California for good. After a long romance with a handsome attorney, I met another, and married him. He had gone to Millikan, Stanford University (on a scholarship), Columbia University, then to University of Chicago,
for law. Hey, need I say more? He was just really interesting...we had two beautiful girls, who've gotten the best of our love. Each resides a city far away;
San Francisco, and the other in New York. Difficult in a way, but they do come to Santa Monica often for shooting on our fabulous lots. They are really more than I ever expected.
I am just knowing this coming year will bring into my life the best of all times.
I have had such a colorful life, that is as i see it. So much to paint, so much more to see and love. I feel so grateful that I have had challenges those things that make you who you are. Now they all are gristi for my mill! A very merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you out there who read this!
Sincerely,
Chris Brown
