Christine's Story

First of all, my maiden name is spelled incorrectly. It should be "Centorino". Now that I've cleared that up, I think I catch people up on what I've done with my life. I know many thought I'd go to nursing school right out of BHS, but, I went to work full time instead. I just didn't feel ready. I did get married to a wonderful man in early 1988, and in Dec, that same year, our son was born, 16 days early. 22 months later, our daughter was born. Now, our kids are 21, our son is enlisted in the Army National Guard, and 19, our daughter is in college. I did achieve my goal of becoming a nurse in 1998, which is all I've wanted since I was 5 years old. I work in a Short Term Rehab/Long Term facility in Harwich, which is 30 miles one way for me, and I work the overnight shift. I love my job, and I love the night shift. No management to deal with. It's the best part of being a night shift person. That, and I've always been a night owl, and never a morning person. I don't think I really have anything else to say. If you want to know anything else, all you have to do is ask. I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. My favorite way to relax and chill is to take one of my dogs, usually my male Chihuahua, Booker, out for a walk, grab my iPod, and crank the tunes. Not only does the dog relax, but I do too. I always wanted to...Expand for more
be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have enough sleep, coffee, and sanity to be able to deal with the day-to-day. I would have to say my father. Reason being, he taught me so much growing up. Now that he lives so far away, in Fla., and in failing health, I've learned the most important lesson. An inner strength I never knew I had, which is so needed right now. Animal Planet, National Geographic, so long as there's nature programs, reality TV, Red Sox games, mindless TV in the middle of the night on my night off, Fringe, If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my front steps and add on a farmers porch. My dream home would be complete. Expect the unexpected. My kids are like all, not perfect, but I'm told my husband and I have done a great job raising them. If I won $100 million, I'd give $2million of it to each of my kids, then spend the rest on pay my house off, buy 2 cars and save the rest. My current age is 46. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old. I was so completely young. Working hard isn't the word for it. It's more like being a workaholic. I'd someday like to work in an oncology specialty, as cancer has touched my life in so many ways. My best friend would tell you I'm happy, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as giddy.
