Christine's Story

Wow!! 20 years sounds like forever, but feels more like a blink in time these days. Cant believe its been that long! A quick update on what Ive been doing for the last 20 years. I married my high school sweetheart (Trelawny McInerney)right after graduation, and became a professional Nanny. It took awhile but we pretty much grew up, and then we grew apart, and eventually divorced. It turned out in my case that choosing a lifetime partner at 16 years old was probably not the wisest course of action imagine that! Thankfully the second time around I did get it right and I met, and married the love of my life Paul. He just happens to be 16 years older than me and in our case opposites did not attract. We are so much alike its scary, which seems to work well for both of us. Hubby already had two daughters, Shannon was already grown and out of the house. He had full custody of his daughter Morgan age 3 at the time (now 16 years old) making us pretty much an instant family. In 1998 we added our son Rylan to the family and he has been one of lifes greatest blessings! We moved to San Antonio, Texas 9 months later. It was my first time living away from home, and my family. I became a stay at home Mom and we made the decision to home school our daughter Morgan because the schools in the area were not great. Hubby traveled pretty much non stop in those days working for the transportation security administration and I kept busy taking care of the kids. After 5 years in San Antonio an opportunity presented itself in ...Expand for more
the form of a job with homeland security for my husband in Indiana. We moved and his travel was cut in half which was a welcome change for the kids and I. We also got to experience seasons for the first time ever and huge bonus for me the schools here are excellent. So I was able to give up home schooling permanently! I thought short term that I would go back to work as a nanny when my son started kindergarten. Life had other plans for our family. We learned that we would soon be grandparents (now how many people can call themselves a grandparent at 34 years old?) Shannon (hubbys grown daughter) has had ongoing problems with drugs, and as a result lost custody of our grandson Gage at birth. We made the choice to adopt Gage, and bring him home to Indiana. Three years later we learned we would again become grandparents this time to a baby girl named Caden. We again made the decision to adopt our grandchild which makes us a family of six. If anyone had told me 20 years ago that one day I would be a Mom to four children (giving birth to only one) I would have thought they were crazy. It turns out that sometimes the thing we least expected in life becomes our biggest blessing. Now we cant imagine life any other way. Having four kids pretty much keeps me as busy as I ever hope to be. At this point we are hoping Shannon is done adding to our family. We are happy but busy! I'd love to hear how everyone else is doing. email me anytime howiepc at yahoo (fill in the blanks!)I'm also on facebook under Christine Howard
