Christine's Story
Life
>> My folks divorced in '77 when I was just starting high school, so the roller coaster life I had with my mom ultimately landed me in 5 different high schools. I required the GED after actually managing to confuse the schools into not knowing how many credits I really had. I got some college and trade school in, and am actually still continuing my education as we speak. Cuz you should.
>> Married and divorced in one year - '90 - after a 10 year relationship with a man with whom I'm still friends. I'm still friendly with all my ex's, actually. No reason not to be.
>> No kids of my own. A young man crawled under my wing a few years ago, and that's the closest I came to motherhood. What a trial! You learn SO much about yourself from the mentorship of a young person. SO much responsibility. I realize how much I missed out on by not having kids, but I don't completely regret it. ;)
>> Pets: I've had bunnies, rodents, reptiles, you name it. Had cats all my life. They're the easiest. Coyotes ate the last 3, so I'm on hiatus. Now I have a rat. She is worshipful.
>> I did the Catholic School thing, so I have the spiritual background that won't go away completely. Yet I don't comfortably subscribe to organized religion. Whatever the TRUTH is, it isn't a doctrine, because doctrines are proposed, composed and imposed by men - NOT the god they are worshipping. I went on a journey for a while, opening my eyes to the belief systems the Christian church that raised me had been condemning. I wanted to walk a mile in the shoes I'd been expected to judge. It was enlightening, and even though I'm still a weak and fallable human, I'm wiser for it, and a lot more loving.
>> I believe in laughing your ass off at life. But I do take life very seriously as well. It's all about striving for balance... I'm glad to know that I really don't know anything yet. That's the carrot dang...Expand for more

>> I've been in Graphics or Medical/Veterinary back & forth through the years. In fact, I've managed to wear a myriad of hats in the process. E.G. the place I'm at now is supposed to be about doing Graphics and Web Design, and I'm more functioning in the capacity of Assistant Treasurer and Administrative Officer, with some graphics on the side.
>> Survived cancer more than once. Hid it from my family so my mom wouldn't get wind of it. It financially devastated me, but I'm younger than ever, and have learned about appreciating a beating heart a bit more. And to try not to let my emotions be my guide. That'll kill you and alienate everyone else. (Menopause will be the big test of this lesson.) =o
>> Have lived in Long Beach most of my adult life. Spent a couple of years in the sticks of N. San Diego, but mostly on the road. Love the sticks, but need the humans, too. I'm currently residing in Orange County and frankly hating it. I'll find my home again eventually. It's all just very scattered, and my social situation is difficult.
>> I think about and miss all my humans from grade school, most of my humans from high school, and would love to find everyone possible, because I've never stopped caring about all of you. These are the faces and personalities that my memories were founded on. I believe that what we are is heavily influenced by the humans we associated ourselves with when we were young. It's important to let go of our pasts, of course. But these are humans who influenced us, and even created issues in some cases.
Sometimes closure is good. Sometimes thank you's and apologies and unfinished business still remain, and I think that makes classmates a good thing. And sometimes I'm just really curious if people like Mope Deringer ever managed to squeak past the radar and remain among the free-walking civilians. And he did. Go figure. Go Mope!
