Christine's Story
In 1977 I married David Almada (who happens to be a cousin of Susan Carreon - a 1968 graduate of El Rancho). He has been an educator with the Los Angeles Unified School District for many years. We have been married for 32 years and have two children.
Our son Rick is an architect. Our daughter, Elisa, is in her sophmore year at Cal State Long Beach majoring in Graphic Design so far. Both of my adult children play awesome lead electric guitars. My son is a great blues guitar player, but with his new band - I can't describe what kind of music they play! His band is called "Northern Sky" and they just recorded an EP. I can't wait to hear the final version! I'm now taking guitar lessons.
I received a Bachelor Degree from Cal State L.A. in Social Work and a Master's in Social Welfare from UCLA. My original goal was to become a therapist, but changed directions and am now a community college counselor and assist...Expand for more
ant professor where I also teach a class to incoming freshman. My employment site is Los Angeles Trade Technical College and in the past, East Los Angeles College.
I have all kinds of interests, but my favorites are music, geneological research, traveling (especially to Las Vegas - we do a lot of traveling with Lydia and John Wells), playing guitar, as well as raising scholarships for graduating Latino high school college bound students and being a mentor to Latino community college students. It is very rewarding to see others succeed in fulfilling their dreams.
In closing, I want to share the alumni I do keep regular contact with - Lydia Terrazas Wells (who is also the godmother of my son), Gloria Cervantes Ahumada whose son, James has known my daughter since they were toddlers and is also attending CSULB, and Cris Lemus Garcia - I baptised her first born.
