Christine's Story
Life
After high school, I spent my first year going to Pratt Institute in New York City thinking I would become an artist. Reality kicked in after a year and the prohibitive cost of going to a private college in the Big Apple without any student aid. (Being a "starving artist" was not part of my plan.) After that, I spent many years in the insurance industry where my employer(s) paid for my degree in Finance and Insurance.
My husband, Gary, aka Evil Eye Flegal in "Lil'Abner", was my high school sweetheart. We have no children, but a cat who thinks she's the princess of the house.
We lived in Japan for almost 5 yearas, and returned to the U.S. in 2006. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. If it wasn't for this assignment with Ford, my husband & I would problably never have seen this part of the world. We were able to enjoy trips to Beijing, Shanghai & Xian, China, Thailand, Australia, Okinawa, Guam, Saipan, Seoul, South Korea, New Delhi, Jaipur, & Agra in India. One of the highlights of the trip to India was seeing the Taj M...Expand for more
ahal which celebrated 350 years of existence in 2004.
In 2005 we had the opportunity to go to Vietnam for a week including stops in Hanoi, Danang, Hue & Saigon (HoChiMinh City). What a beautiful & interesting country. The people are friendly and are constantly apologizing for the propoganda style information from the government that talks about the "American" war.
I enjoyed immersing myself in the Japanese culture, learning Japanese, spending my time being involved with the local international women's club, and teaching conversational English to a Japanese high school student & her mother, a college bound student, as well as occassionally teaching Japanese naval officers at the naval academy on Etajima Island.
It's difficult to believe we won't be leaving again to return to Hiroshima & the many friends I made there. Adjusting to life back in the U.S. has been a challenge. I have made it a point of going back to visit friends. This year I'll be celebrating my kanreki with friends while I'm there during cherry blossom season.
