Christine's Story

I moved to the Phoenix area in April '10. My daughter Tracey was already living here & is employed by USAA here in PHX. My son Tommy moved out here with me & was a manager at Macaroni Grill in Phoenix. He is now starting at Oregano's here in PHX. I retired from USAA in San Antonio in 1997. My very first job was working after school at Joske's downtown. In the summer of '57 I worked at both Joske's downtown & at Joske's Las Pslmas. After graduation, I was hired Sept. 10 at Kelly AFB & worked there till 1966. I met Thomas Adair at Kelly & were wed in 1962. Our son was born in '66 & our daughter was born in '69. I was a full time homemaker, canning figs & plums, sewing, gardening, etc. When my daughter started pre-school & kindergarten at House of Prayer Lutheran I volunteered to teach Spanish to the enrolled children. After my daughter started 1st grade at Colonies North, I became an aide at House of Prayer pre school & kinder from '72 to '80. My church decided to close the school so I was hired at USAA at After Hours Operations which was part time employment. During that time I also worked part time during the day at the USAA Fed. Credit Union which at that time was located inside the USAA building. In 1983, I went full time & worked for policy service until 1997. By 2005, divorced the 2nd time & living in Poteet in the country on 5 acres, I decided to get a part time job.. ...Expand for more
My brother in law who was also retired, worked for the San Antonio Spurs & told me about CSC at the arena. I was hired as a "crowd controller" & worked all kinds of events, concerts, games, conventions downtown. Got to know the Spurs and their families. I also worked for Argus doing the same. I was going to church in Jourdanton & Lois Ferguson had started a catering business & asked me to work part time for her so I did & got to go to a lot of festivities all around south TX, San Antonio, New Braunfels. We catered to the coal miners near Pleasanton where coal mining is done on the ground surface. So after selling my house in Poteet, I moved to AZ. I now am a member of All Saints Lutheran church in PHX. I'm in choir & I'm in the social ministry committee & volunteer to do do other church related events. I plan to attend the 55th class reunion so hope to see a lot of our class there. I have kept in touch with Mary Louise Davila Martinez, Patsy Long Skeels, & have also connected with Rosemarie Rendon Moore, Lupe Ruiz Jennings & Jerry Gregory until her recent death and Joe Lopez Thiersen. I went to the reunion and had a lot of fun. We had a very large turnout but had a hard time recognizing some of our classmates. (I wonder why?). There are about 6 of us ladies from my church choir who have done 2 tours of wineries here in AZ. Had a great time tasting all the different wines.
