Christine's Story

Life Retaining my lifelong passion for art (painting, sculpting, fine scale modeling), I found my niche as a porcelain restoration artist. Clients enjoy invisible repairs to very old figurines, antiques, collectibles, objects d' art which have missing or broken pieces. New flowers, fingers, branches, leaves, bird legs/beaks - any parts, are sculpted, then hand painted or airbrushed to hide the repair - and finally glazed. Challenging & rewarding work (my photos show before & after of a lamp restoration). Beach combing is still something I enjoy to be close to nature - first enjoyed on the Jersey "shore" (called a beach here in FL) in the early 50's - before the crowds & when there were still many shells on the beach! Quality time with my my grown son & daughter is important - plus they have given me 7 grandkids who live nearby!!Sharing nature experiences and arts and crafts is so much fun with the kids - I'm a Grammar school art teacher wannabee. I'm still in touch with some dear friends from Waldwich & Midland Park via email & phone. I can honestly say now, that looking back on the small town upbringing in Waldwick was wonderful - there were people of many nationalities there, which I'm grateful for. Swimming at the municipal pool next door to our home, White's Pond across the street for ice skating & fishing, the burough park next to that for the beauty of the woods (there were wild flowers there back in the day)! Anybody remember "3-B's".... the place in the stream where you could swim?), free band concerts at Waldwick Grammar School...Expand for more
on Sunday evenings, girl scouts & the parades we were in + GS father daughter square dances, Mrs. Jester's tiny doll shop (got my first Ginny doll there - still have her!), going across town to sleigh ride down the steep hills at "The Villa", the train trip to Ridgewood to go to the movies or shop, dance lessons with Mrs. Rivera in a tiny studio near the train tracks (VFW bulding?), the San Genero street festival in the early fall on Zazzetti Street, our Van Court neighborhood gang who played very well together outside for years (The Tices, Pinkhams, and Terlemazians, Miss McPhillips the Waldwick Grammar school art teacher-who understood my creativity and totally inspired me, the Cathay Chinese restaurant for take-out (from my Grandfather), Sunday "rides, just because" (remember them - when route 17 had traffic lights?!) & ending up in Montvale at the Dairy Queen... not much traffic in those days. Mrs. Krakisus' (sp?) tiny candy shop near the tracks - we were allowed to leave school property during lunchtime in those days ...so our little girl gang (Pat Mace, Claudia Specht) walked up there to get dessert after school lunch, school Principal Mr. Workman and his "Chiefland" club + the hall safety patrol, Miss Moering and the marching band, living close to the NY State 7-Lakes drive and enjoying what all those state parks had to offer, being close to Manhattan for all the wonderful school trips we took there ....all of this in my childhood directed me to my present love of nature and culture. Life is good - hope it has been for you too.
