Christopher's Story

What's my story? Hasn't exactly been a fairy-tale this past year. As some of you know, my wife Joyce (Dohmen, Class of 84' from Bergan), and my daughters Kylie, and Olivia, all passed away this past February 25th in a fire at Joyce's mom's house in Fremont. It was caused by old wiring in the house. It was originally put in, in 1922. We moved back to Fremont in the summer of 07', to be closer to our families so that our parent's could spend more time with our kid's. Fortunatly, they were able to spend more time together than they had been, but unfortunatly, no-where near as much time as planned. Joyce and I were together 18 years, so this past 6 months without her, has definatly been a challenge. This past summer was the hardest thing to get through. First was Kylie's birthday on June 12th. She would have been 4 years old. Then Joyce's on July 11th. She would have been 42. Then Olivia's on August 31st. She would have been 3. One a month, 3 months in a row. My 40th was August 7th, but I didn't really have much to celebrate. They were such beautifull kid's. There isn't an hour that goes by, that I don't think about them. They are the first thing that I think of when I wake up, and the last thing when i go to sleep. It's going to be hard not having them in my life. I hope no-one I know, ever has to go through something like this. Next are the holidays. I think if I can just get through the first year, I should be ok. It's going to be rough, but I've had a lot of people show a lot of support. Sorry if I bummed anyone out. That wasn't my intention. I ...Expand for more
just felt I needed to let everyone know what had happened. I'm still in Fremont so far. I haven't decided yet, where I really want to be. After living in Nevada for 10 year's, I thought of going back, but there's a lot of memories there, and I'm not sure if I want to put myself through that. My kid's were both born there, and Joyce and I were married there, so there's a lot of history there. Since we were both born and raised here in Fremont, and grew up just 4 block's apart, the idea of going to Nevada without her this time, just doesn't feel right. That was something we did as a couple. We made it our home, together. Maybe a fresh start somewhere new? I promised my folk's that I would stay here for 1 year after the fire, so that I wasn't making any rash decision's with clouded judgement. Let my head get back to normal, so to speak. Take some time to adjust to everything. I'm not sure if that will ever really be possible. But at least I should be able to make a clear headed dedecision. And not an impulsive one, fueled by emotion. I've been in sales for more than 15 year's now, and know that's a career I can pursue anywhere. I'm thinking somewhere warm, and close to the ocean. No more cold and snow. After 10 year's in the desert, this last winter here reminded me why I originally moved to a warmer climate. The fact that I'm going to stay here until at least next fall, and endure one more winter surprise's me to no end. Well, I guess I've whinned enough. Time to sign off. I hope everyone's doing well, and I look forward to hearing from some of you.
