Christopher's Story

Life Hi there all! You know, I attended our 10th year high school reunion back in 1999. I got to gab with some of the folks in our class. It was really nice.... However, I did'nt sincerely reflect on my years in high school until I was standing outside in the cold at a hotel in Portage, Michigan where my fiance's 20 year high school reunion was held a few months ago. My high school years were difficult for me. I had the normal trials and tribulations of a teenager intensified about 10 times. I perceived, that for the most part I was not social, did'nt have many friends, attained basic grades (if they could be called that), and sincerely was not comfortable in my own skin. I have made peace with my past, and accept it. But, sometimes I wonder what I might've missed. And, sometimes I don't. Right out of high school I dove into work as an Emergency Medical Technician, and a short time later I took a position with the Los Angeles County Fire Department (I had a foot in the door because I had been an Explorer Scout during high school). Sometime after that I decided that I wanted to follow in the footsteps of my family and entered into a brief career in law enforcement that ended with an injury. Today I work as a Fraud Investigator and also have my own business on the side. After high school I attended Rio Hondo College, and have been going to UCLA part-time for a few years now. My major is Philosophy. I have also attained a few professional credentials. I was married in 1994 and have two son's from that marriage. My sons are my "Angels." In them I find a peace and certain affirmation of a destiny. I was divorced in 1998. Only a few weeks ago (02-2005) I became engaged to my soulmate. I've sought her for many years now, and in many places. It's about darned time I found her. We have set a date, but to me it does not matter...as long as she's in my life. There's a dog in my life now too. His name is, Apollo. He keeps me full of...Expand for more
excitement when every two weeks or so he runs off and I engage in a short foot pursuit. There are also two fish, "red" and "blue." My fiance, Cristina, and I live in Arcadia, California. In my spare time I run in triathlons and marathons. In only a few weeks I'm going to run in a half-marathon that will take me up and over the Golden Gate Bridge. I bicycle a fair amount in the area of the Rose Bowl. I also surf every chance I get. A few years ago I learned to sail. When I was younger I always seemed to feel that there was something missing from my life. Introspectively I could never put my finger on it. As we all have, I hope in life, I went through a process of self discovery. Mine was prompted by some unfortunate events in my life, but, I suppose that was in my destiny too. I grew up too fast due my occupations. I lost touch of who I was and where I wanted to go.... Then I really hit a low spot. When the smoke cleared I was able to stand up, and with the help of some really good folks, dust myself off and start walking again. For some time the tunnel was dark for me and I was certain that the flickering light at the end of the tunnel was a locomotive.... But as I preservered and kept moving I came to see that the light was not an oncoming locomotive. Eventually I walked into the sunshine of a new day. My life today is wonderful, and beyond my expectation. I have my bad days like everybody else in this world, but, they just are'nt as frequent and to the severity as they used to be. My life today is filled with the people I love, and those who love me back. I have a higher belief in a faith that brings a peaceful serenity, and the promise and hope of each new day. Because of the path I've walked I have an even greater strength and through wisdom a deeper character. I once read, "Nothing great will ever be achieved without great men, and men are great only if they are determined to be so." -Charles De Gaulle Peace, Chris
