Christopher's Story
Life
I successfully escaped Ohio at age 20, and with the exception of a short return in 1990, stayed in Asia for almost 14 years. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to study Japanese, Korean, and Tagalog, and I'm working on Spanish and Portuguese, and my eye is on Mandarin Chinese and Arabic.
I'm now living in Boston with my husband (yes, thanks to the socially progressive Commonwealth of Massachusetts), Dennis, whom I met while working in the Philippines in 1996. He's been constantly supportive through the various moves, despite the fact that we have winter in Boston. My family loves him, and he'd gladly move to Wayne County any day, but he'd have to take me kicking and screaming.
Of my two best friends since high school, one has now passed on (Kevin, as most...Expand for more
of you probably know), and the other, Christopher Hanzie (from Norwayne), has been living in Tokyo since 1989. We are still VERY close, and try to see each other at least once a year.
Dennis and I have a son--Koby--a little boy born in 2003, whom we adopted in August 2006 through the Dept of Social Services. The same month, Dennis received his green card, making our stay in the US easier.
Oh, I changed my family name to match the rest of my family's now: Sol Cruz. Who would've known I'd become such a traditionalist?
In April 2007 I quit my job of 11 1/2 years at Thomson Learning to start my own publishing services business. It's a work in progress, but my two business partners and I already have more to do than we could hope for.
Here's the next big adventure!
