Chuck's Story
I love the hammond blues-jazz organ, love music in general.
And in business sales management.
I began classical piano lessons when we lived in Toronto in the later '50s.
When we moved to Regina in 1959, I was so lucky to meet my next Piano teacher - Don McKenzie, an incredible rock piano player who played in Regina's most popular band.
We then moved to Calgary, and when I learned that my 'piano' teacher switched to rock organ, I had to follow suit. So I began to jam with school friends, and eventually met school mates who played in weekend bands.
I first played organ in amateur weekend bands in Calgary in 1963-64 (with Jordie York, Danny Lowe, Don Ryan, Patsy Johnson, Dixie Lee Stone, Wayne Morrice, among many others).
When our family moved to Winnipeg in 1964, I joined a weekend band called the Syndicate playing organ (performing with Kurt Winter and Bill Wallce).

to Vancouver in 1965 and I joined my first R&B band, New Breed playing Hammond organ, performing with Alex Michie, Billy Dixon, Jordie York, Kurt Winter, and many other members. The family moved back to Winnipeg in 1968 and I became a professional, full-time musician, recording and performing on Hammond B3 all over Canada and the northern USA with Sugar&Spice until 1973.
The family moved back to Vancouver (again!) where I have lived ever since.
I joined a lounge group playing Hammond B3 (and lower keyboard bass) at the Johann Strauss for 2 years.
I then joined the re-formed New Breed performing with Alex Michie, Billy Dixon, Mark Hasselbach, Ed Worst, Darryl Miller, and later Kentish Steele and others.
In mid 1975 I ended my full-time performing, and entered into music retail. I was at a Baldwin store for almost 10 years, then joined Tom Lee Music in mid-1985, where I still am today.
