Chuck's Story
July2016 update.
I have just retired from a 17 year gig teaching algebra and geometry to some very bright 8th graders in newport beach, CA.
Now I am moving to Coronado Island (san diego) CA to be close to my very bright grandkids.
. My Favorite Things (In no special order) 1. The Right Companion/Partner (soulmate?) because virtually everything else on this list is made greatly more enjoyable when the right person is part of the experience.
2.Convertibles... a leisurely drive south from San Francisco through Carmel and the Big Sur and along the Pacific coast.
3. a Romantic Bed & Breakfast.. discovered, not in a guide book, but on a lark when driving by, especially if it means changing carefully laid plans to stay in a chain-hotel further along the road.
4. Sitting on an open-air deck at the beach at dusk.. savoring a gentle breeze, especially if it is Sunday evening and planning to drive home early the next morning.
5. Open-air Dining... whether it is a sidewalk cafe in Paris or a deck overlooking the Caribbean, or even my own backyard in a pinch, I love to eat outside. Includes picnics.
6.Shopping.. when there is nothing in particular that you have to buy, and especially in a place or area where there are many unusual or hard to find items. Or especially good values. Furniture shopping in High Point, North Carolina is a favorite thing because of value and also variety, for example.
7. Adventure... Discovering new cities and cultures and doing a...Expand for more
nd eating what you ve never experienced before.
8. Theater.. all theater, but my favorite would be a full production musical performed on Broadway.
9. grandkids.. rough-housing with them, watching them play, getting a hug
10. Fine Dining... an entertainment in its own right if done well. Any food except steaks which I can grill at home as well as any restaurant. I will normally select the most unusual entree on the menu, just for fun.
. 11. Movies that make you cry...even when you are a guy
Workplace
After a year with IBM/Baton Rouge (most of it spent living in NYC while training), and 5 years in the Navy (2 years living in Naples, Italy!) I returned to Beaumont and the foundry for a run of 20 good years. My brother and I merged with a industrial holding company in 1993, and I retired 3 years later.
A few months later, while quite happy and never bored as a retired guy, I woke up one morning thinking about good ole Mrs. Bell, and wondering if I could be as fabulous a math teacher as she was.
I elected to move to southern california to obtain a teaching credential, and today I teach algebra and geometry to some very bright 7th and 8th graders in Newport Beach. It is much more rewarding and fulfilling than I ever dared to imagine!
I never took the time to tell Mrs Bell (and Mrs Bond and all the others) thank you, so I guess these paragraphs are my way of telling her thank you.(with necessary apologies to Mrs. Becthel for the grammer and spelling!)
