Charlie (Chuck)'s Story

Life (Updated as of: 2/14/2008) Well, let's see... After HS, I joined the Military just before Desert Storm. I did seven years as a Firefighter, and spent time in a few countries like Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Italy, Spain, and Panama. I finished my time at Vandenberg Air Force Base, and became a Hot Shot (Wildland Firefighter) for a season where I was picked up by the Fire Department there. You may know about Vandenberg. We are the place here the rockets and missle go from on the west coast. Since then, I've moved up the ranks to Lieutenant/Engineer where I fill in as a Fire Captain at our Hazardous Materials Station. I fly in helicopters during the summer fighting brushfires on a specialized firefighting team known as Helitack. Personal Story: I was married when I joined the Military (1989), and divorced within 3 yrs. The military life was too difficult for both, and it eventualy led to our break-up. There was no blame on each side, but just a civil separation. I hear she is happy now, and that is cool. I spent the next 10+ years living the "single life". I had no regrets, and I met alot of very nice people along the way in life. When I came to Santa Barbara (1996), I met a woman who I would later have my two boys with. My older one is named Tylr (yes, no "e") and he is most like me. Alot of his mannerisms are like me and the way he speaks is alot like me. He is an Honor Student, and was accepted into the Gifted And Talented Education Program. He loves sports and excells in baseball. My yonger one is Jordan, and he is alittle more like his mother. He is very laid back, and does very well in school. He does sports like his older brother, but his passion is soccer. I love my boys with all of my heart, and my life completely changed when they came into my life. It didn't workout with their mother and me, so we parted ways. We were two very different people, and that wasn't going to change. We live in the same small town, so I get to see my boys everyday I'm off work (24 on/ 24 off). Through my job, I met this EMT who used to go visit us at the department, and a couple of years later we both found ourselves single and decided to give a "date" a try (2002). A few years after that first date, I decided to give marriage a try. We wed on December 31 2004. Together had four kids (she had two and I had two): Alan, Kandis, Tylr, and Jordan. My wife became a Paramedic, and life seemed to be good even though "time alone" was far and few between. With both of our schedules, it was tough on...Expand for more
us. We tried to make the most of it, and we worked well together most of the time. Unfortunately, that didn't work out either. We divorced in 2007. Because I don't make a pracitce of trashing people, I will just say it was better for us to part ways and leave it at that. Let's just say that I no longer freely and easily give out my trust and loyalty. What I do miss the most out of that ordeal are the kids. I will always miss Alan and Kandis even though they are no longer around. Alan has elisted in the Army and he is is a heavy equipment operator now. He has a wife and a baby girl on the way. He is statinoed at Ft Carson in Colorado, so I don't see him anymore. He loves Graphic Arts and is a very creative writer. I am proud of how far he has come since I first met him. Kandis is still in High School and lives with my ex-wife. She loves soccer, and socializing. I do wish I could see her, but she lives far away. Still, she is the only daughter I've ever had (step or not), and I love her with all my heart. It breaks my heart, but life is what it is.... I currently have a girlfriend, and she is very good with my sons and very good to me. She is Italian, and has three kids. Two in High School, and one in grade school. Our kids all get along very well. She is very suportive of me and my family, and I am very supportive of her and her family. She is a good person to talk to and we spend as much time as we can together (when kids and work allow it!) Overall status: My life (as I like to tell people) is in constant "fast-forward" mode. After the divorce, my grandmother came to live with me and my sons. She has been a great addition to the family, and my sons love to be with thier "GG" (Great-Grandmother). There is seldom a quiet moment for myself, but we are happy here. My boys are athletes all year long. They do baseball, basketball, soccer, and football. School and sports is what goes on in our house during the year, and like I said earlier, they are doing FANTASTIC is school. I could not be any more prouder of them. I feel I've done alot with my life before my boys came along. I've seen places, countries, met people and done things most haven't. I have no REAL desire to go or do anything else other than be with my family and watch my kids grow. I hope this story hasn't bored any of you, but know this. I am happy with my life and would not change anything in it. I am the person I am now BECAUSE of what I've been through, experienced, and learned along the way. Good and bad, everything happens for a reason....
