Chuck's Story
Life
First, if you are visiting, drop me a line! Okay...Life's been good to me so far... After graduation I went out and partied all night. The next morning I had to go to work...oh, too much detail? Okay. After working in the music business briefly and then getting the blue-collar blues, I returned to college and actually excelled! I became a History Teacher first at Wills High School, which closed, and since then at Douglas County High School. I have been blessed with a career I love and a reasonable talent for it. I taught at D.C. for about 20 or 100 years, I think. Now I am in my first year at Villa Rica High School. Along the way I have been lucky enough to gain some recognition (I was Georgia's first James Madison Fellow) , but since this isn't a resume, we won't go there. I was also married at age 19, a journey which ended suddenly 14 years later. About three or four years later I married again and my wife Lydia and I recently built a home on 12.5 acres near Temple, Georgia. I still love teaching (though it gets tougher every year)and I also love travel. I have taken students to Europe six or seven times and look forward to continuing that. ppen. Somewhere along this great journey of life I misplaced my hair, and a few close friends whom I miss far more than the hair. In the last year I have also lost over 80 pounds! I think that is pretty amazing.
School
Lithia Springs H.S.: Okay, I was on the yearbook staff, the phantom air rifle club, and spent an awful lot of time not doing things I should have been doing. I graduated with a dismal GPA, but a good SAT opened a few doors when I needed it.
Georgia State University: I had grown up, so I kicked butt on the way to graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BS in Education.
West Georgia College: On my way to a Masters degree, I was named Georgia's first James Madison Scholar, attended American University, Oglethorpe University, and then graduated from West Georgia.
Harvard: I visited their campus, it is really nice.
College
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Georgia State in 1986 with a BS (so appropriate) degree in Secondary Social Studies Education. I started teaching that Fall Semester. After winning the James Madison Fellowship I earned my Masters from West Georgia College (the State University of West Georgia). All my education friends used to keep in touch, but alas, no more. Are any of you out there?
