Chuck's Story
I joined the Navy in Feb 1970. After boot camp, was sent to Memphis Tenneese for Aircraft Mechanic school. From there on to Atsugi Japan. Spent a few months there I was sent to Da Nang Vietnam for 6 weeks that ended in 9 1/2 months. Then went back on an aircraft carrier (Constellation CVA-64)for a 10 month deployment in 73. Feb 74 my enlistment expired. Met my wife Brenda(she went to Lincoln) and we dated about 6 months and broke up she didn't want to marry a truck driver. I went trucking over the road for 2 1/2 years. I was in the sleeper when we were in a 23 vehicle accident. No one was seriously hurt. I quit driving tractor tailer and went to work for Sundstrand (over in Westminster). I gave Brenda a call. We started dating again. We were married in March 78. Had our first son in 80. In 82 I went back into the Navy. Our daughter was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 83. Aboard the USS CLARK FFG-11. In 1985 we were transfered to Philadelphia. Yuck, I did not care for it at all. Great history, but the town is really run by the local moffia. Our youngest Ben, was born in 85. We then were transfered to San Diego were I taught sailor's how to opperate the latest and greatest Sonar equipment. Sonar is what we use to detect, track, classify and if necessary destroy submarines. I...Expand for more
like the destroy part. We did not get to launch a torpedo in anger at an enemy. We traveled all over the U.S. On board the ships I was on, I traveled all over the world. I like to sample a little of the local grub. Have you ever eaten monkey or dog (Philipines)or goats head soup (Pakastan)? I was offered an eye ball, but was not going for it. We were transfered to Chalreston South Charlona. Aboard the USS CARR FFG 52. I enjoyed 22 years of Naval service and retired in 1998. Earned 19 awards somne of the multiple times. Then was given the opportunity to teach high school(can you believe that?). I taught Naval JROTC for nine years. An increadable experience. I retired from teaching and are now enjoying driving a school bus. We have three children and three grand-children including our latest arrival, a cute baby girl. We live in Clearfield Utah (north of Salt Lake City) We enjoy fishing, music, oldie movies and our family. Would really like to hear from ya'll. (we lived in South Carolina for 4 years).
Has anyone seen or heard from Dave Lampson or Doug Cooper?
