Chuck's Story
Chuck is married 33 years this Spring. One child, a son who attends Bainbridge school and currently a Sophomore at Eagle Harbor. My schools include Bainbridge High School and some college classes.
I own and operate Courtier Sign Company established in 1948 by my father. If you are around Bainbridge, you've seen my work even if you didn't know it. I have personally created hundreds of signs in the Winslow area not to mention my father's work. Many of which have been up for decades. My signs usually outlive the businesses they were created for. That's the sad part when I have to take down a sign for a company that didn't make it and replace it for a new business. But there's always the new business to root for!
My interests include Model Railroading. O gauge 3 rail, specializing in Seattle Portland & Spokane and other Northwest liveries. Car and boat restoration including a 1918 40' Classic cruiser and several chevy's. Currently working to restore my '85 GMC Caballero (El Camino) that I've owned for 20 years. Not much to do as I've kept it up all these years. This Spring it will have a new 350 engine to replace the original 305, plus some other upgrades. The tranny has been upgraded to a 350 Turbo. I also designed and built our house and continually upgrade it. We have currently finished a completely new kitchen. Our property is also of major interest as we have about 1 1/2 acres of landscaped area. The rest of the property is deep woods and a stream.
More about Chuck: Graphic artist and entrepeneur. My talents are quite varied and I'm very good at them. One of the ...Expand for more
few actual sign lettering using real paint and lettering brushes left in the area. Not much call for it but some people still like traditional signs. Most of my signs though are produced using up to date computer methods. Projects I've created are all over the Northwest, Hawaii, Alaska and even as far away as Russia. I work with all types of materials and tools from fine woodwork to metals and plastics. Signs are my mainstay of what I do but a sign can be made from just about anything. And I've made signs using just about every material conceivable. I work with computers and graphic software along with output machines including a large format printer and a cutting plotter. I also build and maintain computers as a hobby.
I not one to throw out a useful item just because it quit working. Instead it gets renovated and put back in new or better than new condition as long as parts are available or the items are beyond repair. Our 1941 Gibson garden tractor is just one example of many.
I live a pretty quiet life since I had surgery for a broken neck (long story, I don't want to share). I work at my shop next to my home and don't have many outside interests. I am perfectly content to stay around the place. Do projects around the property and follow the little animals around. Our current "livestock" include three cats and a dog. Our dog is a goldie and she is as sweet and neurotic as they come. Our two indoor cats are Russian Blue mix and a major part of our family. Third cat is a rescued stray orange tabby, "Muffin". She is the shop cat and takes care of the vermin outside!.
