Cicily's Story

After high school, I went to St.Francis College (now University) in Loretto, PA - majoring in Spanish. In 1969, I married Bob Waeger and the marriage lasted 20 years. My work history was in the field of mental health counseling. We had five beautiful children - 3 girls and 2 boys. My youngest, Danny, died from non smokers' lung cancer in 2009. He was only 26 years old and diagnosed at age 22. Four years of chemo and he still did not make it. During those 4 yrs, Dan established the National Collegiate Cancer Foundation which awards scholarships to college students battling cancer. Check out his story at collegiatecancer.org. In 1998, I had a severe illness and was not expected to live. I was in intensive care for 9 weeks and in a coma for 7 of those weeks. Even doctors said it was a miracle that I survived. Since then, I really appreciate each day of my life and look at every event as a blessing. How many folks get to retire at age 42? All four of my adult children are married and so far there are 10 grandchildren. They bring so much joy to my life, but unfortunately none are even in PA. One daughter and her husband are in the Foreign Service, and I have been blessed to visit each country she has served in - so far Kenya, Poland, and Bolivia, and South Africa.. They have 3 children. As of November, 2014, I have 10 grandchildren and wish they lived closer. If money were no object, I would be traveling a lot more! Closer to home I enjoy all types of dancing and even started adult tap dancing at age 64. Unfortunately, I have no dance partner and no man in my life. I work out at the YMCA three times a week. Enjoy sewing very much - a way to express my creativity. In October ,2011, I started a business making and selling handbags, purses, diaper bags, and totes. Despite my own past illness and m...Expand for more
y son's death, God is Good, Life is Good, and I am basically a happy person. My son Dan Waeger is my hero. He put up with four years of chemotherapy and a bit of radiation, and never complained or asked "Why me?" He was and still is such an inspiration for young adults with cancer The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Bob Barnes NS Frank Babish, because I still remember them singing Cherry Pie in a 7th grade Talent Show. My son in law, James Urban, was the Philadelphia Eagles's quarterback Coach for a couple seasons. As of 2011 season, he is the Wide Receivers Coach for the Cincinnati Bengals. I get to go to one pro game per season.. I am now amending this in May, 2015. My plans are to move to Ocala, Florida and not have to deal with snow anymore. My house is not yet on the market to sell - it will be as soon as I can get out 50 years of accumulated "stuff." it is not FUN, especially doing it mostly alone. Come HELP ME. I learned that I adore newborn and young babies so I had five. Learned I had more patience that I believed possible. Learned I must have been a good parent cause they all turned out to be wonderful successful and loving children so I must have done something right! All four years of college, my room-mate was Marylyn Mc Carthy whom I had been friends with since 7th grade. We still keep in touch. Trophies - have several for public speaking, as I am part of Toastmasters International. Mrs Beryl McLean was a great speech teacher! In 10 years, I hope to be alive and in good health and enjoying all my grandchildren.. I'm going to get there by exercising and eating better than I do now.. My first job was at Coraopolis YMCA, where I got paid $1.50/hr to lifeguard and teach swimming. What I remember most about it is I got to see Boyd Lysiac in his swim trunks..

Four years ago tomorrow I had the WONDERFUL honor of becoming Mrs. Russ Kaye. The best adult decision I’ve ever made! Truly God’s special gift to me!
