Cindy's Story

Life After high school I worked for a couple of years before attending the U of A. I took a brief trip to Europe with a friend during this time. I taught school for a year and then travelled to New Zealand via Europe and Asia in a bedford army truck, camping most of the way. I married Ross in 1980 and we spent four years in Canada returning to NZ when our second child was a few weeks old. We started a business making aluminium windows and doors which we had for about 10 years. There was a teacher shortage here around that time and I returned to teaching part time for a few years, mostly new entrants. After we sold the business we built and sold a few houses along with various other things. Ross and the two boys are heavily into sailing. atch racing here and overseas and both boys coach teams racing. Ross is involved in running and coaching teams racing here as a sport at school and beyond. Both the boys are at university studying for business degrees. Our daughter loves to travel and has been doing that for the past six years. I have been fortunate enough to visit her when she was in London and we both went to see her in China last year and travelled around with her while we were there. She now owns and runs a guest house/backpackers in Rarotonga in the Cook Island group. We have been spending a lot of time up there fixing up the place and looking after it while she took a trip to Colombia. I have also been fortunate enough to be able to afford to come home every couple of years to see my family and friends. We have had a few Canadians visit us over the years here too.
