Cindy's Story
Ahh - "Temple City, We love thee . . . " I remember high school as a great time, with wonderful people. For me, Temple City was an ideal place to grow up. The San Gabriel Valley sure was a different place then. I remember going to parties from Pasadena to Arroyo HS on the weekends, and frequent drives out to the beaches.
Education
After high school, I'd been accepted to UCLA, but deferred admission for 2 years so I could get the first half of college for free at PCC. (Remember when that was free!?!?) Then I finished up my Bachelor's degree at UCLA, taking a leisurely 3 years, since I was also working, getting married and buying a first house at the same time.
Career
Now this is a short paragraph! During high school, and all through college, I worked part-time at Fedco - remember that store, on Colorado Blvd?? After graduating from college, I worked for one year managing a decorating business in Camarillo. My career was happily over the day my first child was born. Ever since, I've been working salary-free as a mom, wife, philanthropist, and all the usual things.
Family
My true joy! While working at Fedco, I fell in love with the guy who stocked the shampoo aisle - my parents were "thrilled." Mik...Expand for more
e and I married and bought our first home in 1978. By 1980, we knew we had to escape the smog and traffic of the LA area, and moved to Camarillo, where we have been blissful ever since. Mike has done wonderfully in his career, so I've been able to "stay home" and raise our 2 kids. By now, my parents truly WERE thrilled. Our son, Daniel, graduated from Cal State Channel Islands and is doing marketing for a company here in Camarillo. Our daughter, Carolyn, graduated from the University of Notre Dame, married a fantastic guy last summer, and is now the LA manager of sales for McCormick spices.
Extracurriculars
Mike and I enjoy working on our home, and have remodeled 4 in our 30 years of marriage. Mike does the construction and I get to shop to my heart's content for all the supplies. I spend most of my "spare time" doing fundraising for a local charity league to fund the arts, medical, homeless, educational and other needs in Ventura County. I guess you could say I'm a professional event planner, but just without the pay. I also keep busy putting on events and parties for the Ventura County Notre Dame Club.
Fortunately, I've enjoyed every phase of my life, and look forward to whatever God brings next.
