Cindy's Story

Today is Monday May 12th. Not sure what to say here.... I guess if you are reading this you must have graduated from Homewood High School in 1978, and are reminiscing, like I have been. I joined this site after getting a post card about our 30 year class reunion, to see who I could find. I was really hoping to see pictures (old and new) and read what everyone has been up to since 1978. I was disappointed at being able to find sites from several people, but not finding out much if ANY information..... Until now there wasn't much on my site either, so I thought I should write SOMETHING quick..... I left Homewood in the fall of 1978 to attend The University of Alabama, and I never moved back. The very first week at Alabama I met the man I would marry and make my life with. Three years after arriving at Alabama I married Allen Alexander(August 1981) we will celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary this summer. We have four children, 2 girls age 24 and 23, and two boys age 21 and 14. We moved around some in the first few years of our marriage but have lived in the Madison (Huntsville) area for the last 23 years. We did live in DC for 18 months in 1987-88 while Allen was on TDY. I have always been a stay at home mom. I have also been a Creative Memories Consultant for the last 13 years. We help people get their photos and stories into scrapbooks that preserve and enrich their families lives. Our oldest daughter, Lindsey, 24, graduated in 2006 from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, then moved to Savannah Ga. to attend graduate school at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), she will finish her Masters Degree in just 3 weeks!! Our second daughter, Justen, 23, graduated last year from UNA (University of North Alabama) with a degree in Biology. Justen got married two years ago and lives in Columbia Tn. with her husband Jonathan and their dachshund puppy "Trudy" (their only child, so far). She works in a pathology lab in Columbia. Our oldest son, Trey, 21, lives in Florence Alabama. He attends UNA. He is in the communications department, movies and radio are his life. He is 21 years old, out on his own, and is LOVING his life. He just adopted a new puppy "Juicy", right now his world revolves around her. Several years ago, Trey went through a rebellious period, he ...Expand for more
made some choices that he wishes he hadn't made. Although I was not at all happy with him at the time, those choices resulted in one of the great joys in my life..... I have a five year old granddaughter named Sage, she is a joy to behold!!! She thinks that "Nana" hung the moon, and I do nothing to correct her. When she calls to say "Nana, can I come play with you today?", it is all that I can do not to break ALL speed limits to get to her!!! Our "baby", Connor, is 14 and is our only child still living at home. The first three kids were very close in age, then there was a seven year gap before Connor was born. Connor is really more like an "only child" than a fourth child. He is at home at a time when there is a little more money, and a lot more leeway, he gets away with WAY too much, and he and all the other kids KNOW it.... Connor will be traveling to Europe with a group called "People To People Student Ambassadors" for three weeks this summer for the second year. This year they will visit England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. I have told him all about the adventures that Lynn Thomas and I had when we visited Elton John's home in London in 1978. I warned him against doing anything like THAT!!! It was FUN, but it was also CRAZY to ditch the group and go off on our own like that...... LOL I have a good life, I have a good marriage, I have great kids, and an amazing granddaughter. We get to travel often which we love to do, and we are in pretty good health all things considered. We feel very blessed. Since getting that post card last week, I have let my memories take me back to my years at Homewood High School. I have spent WAY too much time looking through my old year books, searching the Internet and daydreaming of days long gone.... Although I have NO desire to go back and LIVE those days again, remembering them has been fun. Some parts of high school were very painful, other parts were a LOT of fun. After all these years it is very easy to focus on the FUN and let go of the pain. Here's to Homewood High School - Class of 1978 and to a "Carnival Atmosphere" on July 26th 2008.... A PARTY - THIRTY YEARS IN THE MAKING!!!!! Cindy Send me an e-mail, I would love to hear from YOU!!!
