Hi All,
Been teaching for 40 years---all middle school(Love that age!!:-) 2 years in Palmyra, WI and then 35 years in Muskego...I took early retirement in June, '09---the 12th, to be exact:-) Still subbing at the 2 middle schools in Muskego...still is rather fun:-) I am very close to a huge portion of my old students--go to their graduations/weddings/ join them for lunch/drinks etc...once they are a "kid of mine", they stay that way:-)
I have one son who is almost 28 years old---Got married to another West Allis girl who lived up the block from us on October 1st, 2011...They live in South Milwaukee..I became a widow rather young(age 41) and had to be a single mom--don't ask me how I did it...I just did..at least I still had my teaching job to support us and lots of supportive friends...Life doesn't always work out the way you might have planned, but it does go on!!
After living/owning a home in West Allis for my whole life, we moved to a condo in Greenfield 10 years ago...love it!! Don't miss all the work, that is for sure!!My son graduated from West Allis Central(at least it was better than Hale:-), but I did get to see him play basketball at West Milwaukee while he was in middle school...kind of cool:-) Of course, his team won:-) Ken McMonag...Expand for more
le is the "family singer"--he sang at my wedding, my sister's wedding..my 2 cousins' weddings..my parents' funerals, my aunt/uncles' funerals etc...so I do see him time to time..still sounds/looks great!:-)
I have also been a floral designer for about 25 years(went to school at MATC and did an apprenticeship too)...worked for years at Garden Gate in West Allis and then JJ's on 92nd and Oklahoma...both owners have died, then I worked at Milwaukee Floral on 19th and Wisconsin with one of my old bosses' daughters until the place was sold...so now I work at my kitchen table...just did all the flowers for my son's wedding...can you say TIRED????...I basically do the wedding flowers for family and old students...keeps me creative and busy during the summer months...
News flash---Bob Long, my "Longfellow Elementary boyfriend"and fellow West Milwaukee grad, and I got married April 6th, 2011...we are very happy! Bob has tentative plans for retiring in June, '12...until that time, he works at his home office at his old house in Waukesha, and we live in our condo in Greenfield...At retirement or before, his home will be sold...maybe the condo too...who knows?? We want to travel and try to escape the Wisconsin winters...lots of options are open to us...
