Cindy's Story

Wow... where to begin? Hmmm... well, I had two jobs plus went to school four hours per day the last six months of high school (yup, K-Mart and M. Price Distributing). After graduating, I dropped M. Price because it was boring and tried to have a little fun over the summer while still keeping my K-Mart job. Believe it or not, that place was a riot and a good time was had by all!!! I lasted maybe a month at Tommy-Tech when fall courses began and I hated it. After cashing my books in for a quick buck I interviewed for a sales position at Beautiful Bedrooms in Coliseum Mall and got the job. Back in the day it was strictly waterbeds and I loved it. I got married (the first time) in 1984 to a guy I met while working at the Big K, Will Conley. He ended up at Beautiful Bedrooms, too, managing the Denbigh location. The following year we had our first child. Over the next few years we had two more children, both daughters, and ended up buying the Va. Beach Beautiful Bedrooms location. At 21, I was the "youngest furniture retailer in America." Blah, blah, blah... by 1991, Will and I had separated and sold the store but remained great friends and continued raising the kids with joint custody. Never before and never since have I truly seen 2 divorced parents put the kids first and do what was best for them over anyone and/or anything else... until Will and I did. That may be the thing I am most proud of, even though our perfect situation would change around 1993:( I guess a few years was better than none, huh? Will and I (just like my sister...Expand for more
s Donna and Bonnie) ended up working for Howmet beginning in the late '80's. I liked that place, too. I think I stayed with them close to four years. In 1993 I sold my house in Hampton and bought another one in Newport News I got into the field of education/career training. I liked the idea of working 9-5ish with no nights, holidays or weekends plus I loved being able to stretch my wings and do something new. During the 6-7 years I spent in this industry I went from being a career/admissions adviser at Tidewater Tech, to managing Novell Authorized Education Center to Director of Training for a Microsoft Education Center. Loved it all. As fate would have it I met my 2nd hubby at a seminar I headed about Novell training. We became great friends and I married him 3 years later and added 2 more amazing sons (now in their mid and late teens) to my brood. More light and humor for this world! I started SCUBA diving in '92 and have gone on some incredible trips. My favorites so far have been the 2 shark dives and all of the shipwreck adventures. To date, I have between 50-60 logged dives and an advanced level certification. Anyone who hasn't tried it absolutely should! A visit to Guadalupe Bay, Mexico to cage dive with great white sharks is on my bucket list. My entire family and extended family remain extremely close and even though 6 different states and thousands of miles separate us we still spend time together several times every year. How awesome is that?!?!? *waves to Troy Lusk, Donna Weiss & Bonnie Letch* to be continued;)
