Cindy's Story
Hello everyone! This is Cindy Pickering just checking in to say hi to all you Goddard alums out there in cyberspace! I am alive and well and living in the Houston area. (Would love to hear from anyone else living in this area...) Here's a brief rundown on where I've been since high school. I graduated from ENMU in 1978 with a BBA, and lived in the Clovis/ Portales area for about 10 years. I then moved to Las Cruces, and owned and operated a small business there. I lived in Cruces for about 18 years, and raised my family there. My son Chris and daughter Lindsay both still live there. I moved to Houston in Oct. 2006 and married another former Roswellite, Bill Milstead (RHS '67). We met years ago at the UFO Festival in Roswell. Small world, huh? Here's a few things that are going on in the here and now. I am about the become a grandmother for the first time, and I am so excited! It's a boy. Due date is June 13, so welcome to the world baby Ryan! This grandparenting thing is really going to be fun. I work as an independant AFLAC representative (love those commercials, and yes, I can quack like a duck!) It's a great job and I enjoy helping the people who are my clients. I work out at the gym 5 days...Expand for more
a week, and try to stay in good physical condition. I also do a crossword puzzle and read every day to try to keep my brain working. Healthy body, healthy heart, healthy mind. My golf is really awful, but I still keep on swinging. I'm not a big TV watcher, except for HGTV and Animal Planet, but I do like watching movies, gardening and landscaping, playing with my dog and cat, and surfing the net. I tend to waste entirely too much time goofing around on the computer...anyone else have that problem? But aside from my family, the one thing in life that I am truly passionate about is scuba diving. I live to dive! I started at age 35 by snorkeling in Mexico, and was so mesmerized by the marine flora and fauna that I knew I had to get certified. I took the training, and I am now a PADI Rescue Diver. I have been lucky enough to have dived in many different locations throughout the US and the world, and now have over 150 dives under my belt. I still get wet every chance I get, even if it's just to change my neighbor's pool filter! If any one out there is a diver, I'd love to swap stories with you! I'd enjoy hearing from any GHS alums to catch up on the past...just drop me an email!
All the best,
Cindy
