Cindy's Story

I went to Powell for one year and then to Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in Minnesota. After graduation I went to Panama City, Florida to teach for one year, but stayed 4. I met my husband there. Bob was stationed there with the Air Force. We were married in 1975. The next year we moved to Indiana where he went to Purdue University; I taught and went to school too. He went back into the Air Force in 1979 and we moved to Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio. I taught school for 3 more year (for a total of 9) and then quit when we adopted our son David. He was 5 days old when we got him. Later we went to Language school in Monterey, CA. I learded German at age 35. It was an intense program - 6 classes a day, 5 days a week for 6 months. But we did learn it. Bob worked for a German research firm as an exchange engineer and we lived on the economy. It was a great experience--not easy but good. I never expected to live east of the Mississippi, much less overseas. The next assignment was Hanscom AFB, MA, a suburb of Boston. An interesting place, but I was glad to leave. The best part there was adopting our daughter, Kate. She was 3 days old when we got her. In 1992 we moved back to Ohio and have been here since. Bob retired in 1999 after 24 years of service. He went back to ...Expand for more
the same job as a civilian. It often entails a lot of trave, mostly to Washington, DC. I have done a lot of volunteer work with the military community, school and church. I've been able to use my education in all of those. I homeschooled my son for 8th grade and my daughter for 3 & 4 and 7 & 8th grades. I never thought I could or would do that, but one should never say they would never do something. After that I became involved with the Homeschool Program at Dayton Christian Schools as a coordinator and teacher in their "in-school" days where the homeschooled kids have classes 2 X a month. I usually about about a dozen families that report to me monthly and I oversee. My job entails a lot of encouraging moms. I'm about to have a major change in life as my daughter goes off to Tennessee to college. Yikes - empty nest time. But my son & his wife live about 12 miles away. They have a 5 month-old-baby, Lillian, so that should help compensate. I was not eager to be a grandma, but I do enjoy it. I am thankful to be a believer in Christ and rest in Him ithrough all the changes of life. If anyone passes through Ohio, look me up. I get to Cody occasionally. My dad passed away in 1992 but Mom still lives there. She had a bout with cancer last year but is doing well as of now.
