Olivia's Story
01/30/10: I'm so excited! I have finally decided to retire June 30, 2010. During my 45 year career, I've worked at some great places with some wonderful people....L.A. Co. DPSS & Probation Depts.; East Whittier City School District; Northrop Grumman (B-2 Division; worked there the longest); and Tri-Cities ROP in Whittier. I have no plans; I just want to do whatever I want, when I want. I want to spend lots of time with my husband, Bob, and especially time with my mom, Susie.
I'm fortunate to have close friends and family living in cool places... Christine Covarrubias Bradley in Sedona; Martina Portillo in Murrietta (close to wine country & casinos); my sister, Jennie, with beach home in San Diego and home on golf course in Palm Springs; my brother, Charlie, up in Red Bluff/Sonoma (more wine country). Me and my brother, Art, live here in Pico and also enjoy spending time together with family/friends. We love it here!!
Oops, how could I forget the grandchildren and my kids. Sheila lives in West Covina and has three kids, hubby, Ruben, and two dogs. Sheila graduated from St. Paul in 1990. Bobby lives in Whittier, and he and Darlene have two children and two dogs. Bobby graduated from El Rancho in 1991 and Darlene in 1992.
Bob lost his leg (below the knee) in 2004 and has a few other health issues so he really doesn't want to travel much any more; mainly fly anywhere. He can't hand...Expand for more
le the confinement of the airplane seats. He'll only fly if we go first class! (yea right!) We've done Caribbean cruises, Hawaii, back east, other states, Mexico, lots of Havasu, so we're OK with not flying anywhere anymore together. I told him that I'm going to keep him busy going to places here in So. Calif. that we haven't visited. Any faraway traveling I do will be with family and friends. I hope to get to Paris and Italy some day before I get too old. That's the plan. My aunt, Aurora, who is 2.5 yrs. older than me plus a very dear friend is also retiring June 30. So that's an added bonus to my retirement.
Bob graduated from Garfield High in '65 and he is busy planning events for Garfield Alumni and scholarship fundraising for young musicians. Right now, he and the band leader of "Chico," have a three-day baja cruise planned for October 22-25, 2010. It's going to be one big party; private cocktail party on Friday, and dancing to "Chico" and "Spice" (another great band) on Saturday night. I'll soon be posting this event on Classmates.com, but if you have any questions, please contact me via Classmates.com.
Well, I'd better close for now it's late and I'm tired. I was in traffic school all day; first time. I actually enjoyed it. Very interesting and informative. I think all teenagers starting to drive should attend traffic school. No, I wasn't on my cell phone texting ......
