Claudia's Story
Hello!
Update 2015
The business I retired from in 2004 needed me, I purchased it back in the fall of 2013. I was in Cannon Beach running my old business most of 2014, Cannon Beach Hotel Lodgings, a family of four classic inns and a restaurant. For the last year I've been quite busy restoring and repairing the inns and getting the cafe running properly. If you are in Cannon Beach, stop by the Front Desk and see if I am around! I would love to see you. We hope to be in New Mexico this year in the fall.
My old adobe home is nestled in beautiful, sunny Northern New Mexico on a small "ranchito". We are in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, off the main road between Santa Fe and Taos. It is green here, which surprises some people. Yes, it is the land of sagebrush and snakes, but we have huge forests nearby. We enjoy our large orchard and gardens, and have plenty of water -- all of that and our two dogs keep us busy. There must be 320 sunny days a year, blue skies are normal, even when it snows. There are many artists in this area, a rich ethnic culture, and overall a very interesting place to live. After 17 years of hard work at my Cannon Beach hotel business I retired, and became a working artist in the Southwest and in France.
I'm married to a French photographer/photojournalist and artist. We paint collaboratively and share many artistic activities together. Pierre is a former war correspondent and we both enjoy politics, our collaborative work often includes a political twist. In 2008 I completed a large Southwest botanical project, based on that I was invited to the Monet's gardens (...Expand for more
2010) to work for five months. We spent most of 2010 in France. The book of the Monet botanical portraits was published in May 2011: "A Season at Monet's Gardens", it is available from all the normal sources. I am currently working on the Southwest book and hope it will be published by the end of the Summer 2012. Pierre and I own a home in Burgundy, France, and spend a good part of the year there.
I've traveled in a lot in Europe and Southeast Asia, and enjoy life as much as possible! Since I was a child art was always important to me and I'm thrilled to do what I love. I paint, sculpt, create unusual collages, hand-color photographs, photograph, draw and incorporate photography into my painting and art on paper projects. Life is good. At claudiatoutain.com you can see my work, you can also email me from that website. We have a small hands on publishing company, CSF Publishing, and currently have over 150 books published. Follow us on FB or through our website: csfpublishing.com
My two daughters and one grandson live in Oregon. My younger brother, John Johnson, who some may know, is a golf photographer and owns a golf advertising company in Seattle and can be reached through J2golfmarketing.biz. My youngest brother, Eric Johnson, who lived in New Mexico with us for close to a year and lived in Portland, Oregon for many years, passed in October 2011.
I love to hear from my classmates, especially if someone is planning to be in this area! We are quite active and travel a lot, I update this profile often and will usually mention when we are gone. Please check it again if you plan to get in touch.
