Claudia's Story
50 years in a small space, I'll try! Following graduation I attended Heidelberg College in Tiffin for 2 years and then married Ray Eberhard and we moved to the LA area. I finished my degree in English and later got an MA in Counseling . Meantime we bought a house in Simi Valley, I taught English and we started a family, a son and a daughter. Returned to work in a program for teen mothers until we moved to the Sacramento area in 1976. In Northern California districts I worked as a High School Counselor, Director of Guidance, Asst. Principal, Director of Special Projects and retired as Asst. Supt. of Personnel. Ray and I divorced and I was single for 5 years. Bought a home, had a good job, good friends, dated intermittently and thought i probably would not remarry. Then, the world tilted on its axis and mutual friends asked me if I would like to join them for dinner with Dick Simpson, a widower whose wife I had taught with in an English dept years ago. etirement and we left the next day for a month long trip to Spain and Portugal. Almost 10 years later we are still toasting our good fortune in finding each other and having a heck of a good life. We travel, we enjoy our home,family and friends, we work out with a Personal Trainer, and we like movies, concerts and theater. My son is married and has 2 girls, my daughter is divorced and no children. I also have a step son and step daughter and 3 step grandchildren.
Gina Merick and I keep in touch and she and Bob and Dick and I met up in San Francisco last year. It was great fun. I had every intention of attending the last big reunion in 2002, but getting married disrupted those plans......we are both planning to be there for the 50th next September in Independence.
Well, as the saying goes "best laid plans..." We will not be at the reunion after all and I'm going to have to read about all the fun after the fact. As it turns out, the date conflicts with another commitment that prevents us from traveling to Cleveland at this time.
