Claudia's Story
When I graduated from Central I wasn't sure what I was going to do, but I wasn't going to do it on this side of the Puget Sound. I knew college was pretty much out of my agenda because I had 4 younger siblings so there was no money coming from my parents and although my grades weren't bad a grant or scholarship wasn't coming my way either. That meant I was going to have to go to work and boy was I ready! I wanted my own space! So, I turned 18 in August and by October the Civil Service came knocking and within 2 weeks I was employed. I moved to Seattle on January 1, 1974 and was on my own at last! Free as a bird. I loved it! I was not going to get married I told myself I was going to stay single until I was at least 40! I was going to be a career person! Yeah right!
That was until I met Darrell Loy Davis on May 31, 1974. We had our first official date on June 1, 1974 and he asked me to marry him that night. Well, I thought he was nuts. He flat wore me down though. He sent me flowers at work every Friday and finally 2 months later after w...Expand for more
eekly proposals that got increasingly more romantic,my final yes was actually pretty anti-climatic. I said yes on July 23, 1974 and we were married on September 21, 1974. We have had the funnest 37 years since. I have certainly never regretted my decision. I still had my career by the way. I started as a GS-2 with the Social Security Administration and retired after 21 years as a GS -11 with the same agency.
During those years I managed to also have two wonderful boys who are now wonderful men. One of which now has 5 children of his own. I also picked up a powerful love of God, animals, birds, green trees and fresh air which is why I live out here in BonneyLake.Washington. Unfortunately, over the years, I developed some problems as well, I don't dwell on them much, but they did cause me to retire early,
You may remember me as someone who laughed a lot and cracked jokes and had a good sense of humor. I have not changed much as far as that goes. Some things never change. I plan to continue laughing and enjoying my life until God takes me home.
