Claudia's Story
In September of 1972, just over a year after we graduated. the nerdy girl who had never had a date married Walter Carter. A year later I had my daughter Charity and 13 months after that her sister Vanessa was born. I discovered quickly that time moves faster after High School.
In 1975 we moved to Beaumont Texas where we stayed for the next 5 years. Then it was off to Tucson, Arizona. By 1986 I was back in Chesapeake, the single mother of two pre-teen daughters.
Now time was moving even faster. I worked at everything from Bookkeeper to Tile Setter over the next 6 years until at the age of 40 I decided to go to college.
At TCC I earned an associates degree in Computer Science and just like any 20 something graduate from college would do I ignored what I was trained to do and went to work for Bell Atlantic as ...Expand for more
a service rep. for the next 7 years.
I left Bell Atlantic in 1999 and went to work for The Heritage Store, a health food store at the ocean front in Virginia Beach. That is where I remain today as their Webmaster designing and maintaining 3 online shopping sites for them. Not bad for someone Mrs. Lane told in 1970 didn't have the grades to go into the computer field.
But my proudest accomplishment in this weird and wacky life I've had is raising my two daughter's Charity and Vanessa to be wonderful women. And my greatest love's are Humphrey, Braxton and Hunter my 3 grandsons.
I have been divorced and single since 1986 and life is nothing like I thought it would be on that summer day when we all graduated but it has been an interesting adventure so far and I can't wait to see how it all continues from here.
