Jaquelin's Story
Life
After High School I left California, returning briefly to work in 1981. I went to Col State, worked for a little while in Colorado and then went to grad school in Tucson. I went into environmental consulting, in Irvine, for a couple of years, and then landed a job with a company that worked internationally, and ended up working in London, where I met my husband. I was pretty career focused and liked travelling and didn't get married until 1988; had my kids in 1991 & 1993. So its going to be awhile before I kick back and can retire! I started my own business about 13 years ago, in environmental consulting - really more town planning, but similar, and that's going pretty well. American know-how sells well in the UK! Now that the kids are a bit older and the business is running well, I do have some spare time and spend it either at the gym, swimming, taking classes, playing tennis in...Expand for more
the summer, and have recently re-discovered the joys of horse-backriding, which has become my main hobby. I have taken up English riding in a big way, riding on a weekly basis on Wimbledon Common, not far from where I live, and I love it! I had a parallel life during high school as I was riding and showing the whole time and had show horses. But the horses I ride here are something else - really big and powerful. Now I ride where ever I go - which just goes to show you, you're never too old to take up a new or old activity. Go for it! I also enjoy travelling to Spanish speaking countries -the Canary Islands are a particular favorite - and speaking the Spanish I learned from Miss Astrakhan.
We may retire to California, my husband would love that, so perhaps I will meet up with other RHS grads, during what the French call "le troisieme age". Sounds nicer than old age or retirement, I think.
