Cleda's Story

First written in December of 2006 for my 360 Friendship page. Jobs I have had in my life: Church secretary, in Odessa Texas, for Parker Heights CHRISTian Church. Was a very rewarding job, one I wouldn't mind still having, but we moved to Joplin MO, after loosing our infant son, so husband could attend Ozark Bible College. After a year at Joplin, and a job at the Joplin Globe, rebinding old (and I mean old, more reading done than binding) copies of the newspaper and helping husband with his janitorial work at the Globe there was a move to Belpre Ohio, to be with family, and a job working at a shoe store. Selling shoes not a bad experience, but would't be long before I became a mother again, Josh born across the Ohio River (biggest river I have ever seen. Spent hours watching the barges) in Parkersburg, WV. (Doctor I used was the brother in law of my doctor in Odessa) A year and a half later we found ourselves in Duncan Oklahoma where Josh's brother Scott was born. Two weeks later we had flown to LAX , where husband met us to take us to our new home in InyoKern California. Two years later I find myself back in Odessa, working as a bank teller from '78 until '98, same company. There is not a teller position, I haven't done, motor bank (both drive thru lanes and walk in commercial window, and motor bank vault), Main vault, both commercial window (really loved working those night club bags, smelling of booze and cigaretts.....totally nnnooottt), and main vault, loved rolling that coin), lobby (regular window and collection) ATM (both on site and off site), with some time in the Customer Service Window thrown in. Movies I would watch over and over: The Notebook, Cellular, Must love Dogs, and Ladder 49. I could go on and on, like all those old black and white Alfred Hitchcock, and all those John Wayne and James Cagney, Ginger Rodgers and Fred Astaire, Sandra Dee, Annette and James Darren...And if this was TV ALL the Twilight Zones..........and can't forget Hallmarks's: Love comes Softly, Love's enduring Promise and Love's long Journey (If I have remembered the names correctly), there's been a couple more since, and the Sarah Plain and Tall Series..........most if not all of the Hallmark movies over the years and now I have to add the National Treasure movies...... Places I have lived: Some mentioned in Jobs section. Would like to add, born in Big Spring TX and two years later tho my brother was born in Kermit TX, we lived in a place called No Trees TX. During elementary and Junior High years there was Andrews TX and Loving NM (south of Carlsbad where my baby sister was born). High school was in Odessa, and after the two weeks spent in Duncan, where Scott was born there was Inyokern, (I think because it was where or close to where Inyo and Kern counties come together) CA, south of the Navy base at China Lake, where husband worked as aircraft mechanic. Went to church at Ridgecrest, CA where China Lake was located. These towns were the only civilization in this valley that was so much like West Texas around Odessa. Divorced, after ten years, and back to Odessa and in '96, after marrying my second husband in '79 and having a 3rd son and my only daughter, I transferred to the Bank branch located in Abilene, TX, but lived 45 miles away in small town of Hamlin TX... Chose to live there because I had two brothers and their families living there. This is where I found what I consider my Home Church, the one I would be attending now if I had the transportation. Did I mention that Hamlin is about 36 miles from Sweetwater, where I was living with my daughter after my husband died in '04, and this was written in '06. Started attending with my nephew. Made this trip to the bank in Abilene daily (even once during a record snow storm in April, couldn't see very far at all, only to be reprimanded, for driving in such weather, and sent back home , in such weather..... go figure) until retired after 20 years in '98, at the ripe old age of 51. That was not the best decision (ones without consulting the LORD never are) ever made. I never tired of that daily trip. That was my time with the LORD. Praise and worship music on the way to and at 630 in evening (I worked from 10am - 6pm) it was Focus on the Family. After '98 and Hamlin, there was Nocona TX. My husband's daughter lived there and then an approximate 45 mile move west to Wichita Falls in December of '03, to be in the same city as my husband's Cancer treatment Center...... After his death in November '04 it was to Colorado City TX to live with my daughter and her family.... Since then, there has been one last move to Sweetwater TX, about 36 miles east of Colorado City....... Well, since this was written I have lived in Gorman TX. I lived in what is called the Hotel, government housing. But since my triple bi-pass the 3rd of March my brother Ken has moved my stuff into his apartment and I travel between there and my daughters in Sweetwater. She has since moved back to Colorado City. Most of my time is spent in Gorman.. My cardiac rehab is at the Eastland Hospital in Eastland, 20 miles north of Gorman. Places I have been on vacation: As a kid, there was our annual Easter trip to my great grandparents farm, near Muleshoe, TX. For years an outside (where else would it be) outhouse was the only bathroom. I can remember when they finally added a bathroom. These were the parents of my mother's father. This trip was they...Expand for more
only time we got to see them... I loved it there.. the cornfields, the windmill with the goldfish pond, the cellar with the dirt walls, the big trees and the tractors...... Then there the trips to Truth or Consequences, NM, to visit my mother's mother, the Pentecostal preacher.. We stopped in Lincoln County (Billy the Kid country) NM, either on the way to or the way back, can't remember which. There were all those family ( aunts and uncles, cousins, grandma and grandpa) fishing camping trips to the Pecos River and I considered our (high school band) annual trips to Frontier City (first roller coaster ride) in Oklahoma City and the band contest in Enid, OK , vacation. It was in Enid that we went to a concert and actually saw Benny Goodman, even if we had to sit so high he looked like an ant...It was at a restaurant here I had my first pizza. My first husband worked at a job where he got a long change (where he's days off fell on a Friday and a Monday, giving a four day weekend) once a month... If memory serves, we went to Austin and toured the Battleship Texas (awesome exprience), no this, I think, was at Galveston, Austin is a little far from the coast, this is where the Alamo is, no no no that's in San Antonio. I think it was this same trip that we went to Houston and was able to get tickets to watch the Astros and Cubs play at the Astrodome. (It was fairly new then) The Astros actually won. This reminds me of the time we took our youth group to see the Reds play in Cincinnati OH, when we lived in Belpre. I've just got to mention: right after we lost our infant son our best friends took us on a trip to Corpus Christi, TX where I actually got to see and walk in the Gulf of Mexico. We took a boat ride out into the bay.... walked the sands of Padre Island, and crossed a gigantic bridge (tall, tall arched bridge), and I usually am afraid of bridges or at least uncomfortable crossing them.. Favourite foods: Oriental, fried catfish (actually any seafood, except calamari. (Is that spelled right and is that the right word for squid), cabbage and broccoli (when I go to a cafeteria, I load up on the veggies), and a good homemade vegetable soup. All Mexican as long as it is not too hot...but lately I've a craving for green chiles. Places I would like to be right now: Austin, TX visiting Josh my firstborn son; Farmington, (I believe he is living in Bloomfield now, not far from Farmington) NM visiting Scott my secondborn son; Witchita Falls, Tx visiting Calvin (my youngest son) and Midtown Manor to visit friends; Pauls Valley, OK, to visit my only grand daughter; just spent almost a week in Sweetwater, TX with my only daughter Cora and 3 grandsons... like I said she has moved back to Colorado City since... Please let's get to know each other again, maybe you can share some of the same information with me, if I haven't bored you completely, is that snoring I hear .... And on that clear, cold morning, in the warmth of her bedroom, the daughter was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any more.
