Cletis's Story

evanscs67 - A.T. America Online Dot Com We did it. Not that, but we got married on the evening of 2 August, this past Saturday. It was a night to remember. She was in a beautiful white wedding dress that was stunning and breathtaking. I was simply in my Dress Blue White with medals...pictures coming soon...and after about 30 mins, we were married. The reception was filled with family and a few friends as we kept things small. We are now on our honeymoon and enjoying each other without the worries of any work. Chat with you all soon. MAJOR UPDATE: If you are reading this after 23 July, then sit down. Since returning from Iraq, I have dealt with major changes in my life. One is the transition from Marine to Civilian though ¿once a Marine, always a Marine¿. I will never let that die in me. I have found love again in my life --- like no other love that I have ever experienced before. In the spring of 1984, I took a young lady to our junior prom that year and later I would find out that it was her first car date with a guy. For me, it would be my first real big date all dressed up. The night was great as we ate dinner at ¿The Spire¿ atop the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Louisville overlooking the city skyline. We ate and talked for awhile and then headed back to the school for our prom night. The night ended with me taking her home on time but not attempting to get that goodnight kiss. (What a big mistake.) For the next 23 years, I would never go out with her again only to see her at our class reunions when I could make it there. Even then, I never attempted to get that kiss. (Another big mistake). Like with any combat tour, there are stresses that each and every servicemember goes through. Some are easier than others and some are harder. What I went through was different as I had many changes and ¿fires in the iron¿ to deal with both professionally and personally. During my 2007 tour, I received an email from my junior prom date (out of the blue) as if we were just crossing paths and catching up on old times. Emails, as she will tell you, were sporadic especially during black-out times. I would go a few days, weeks and sometimes a month before being able to write. And, on a few occasions, there were some phone calls. Since landing back in the states in January, we have both been together in KY and in NC many times. It is amazing how well that we have reconnected with each other to the point that we knew that something was there between us. By the way, I finally got that kiss. Remember how I mentioned finding love like never before. Well, her and I talked for many hours and some people might ask, what all did you talk about? To answer that, we talked about everything. The more we talked, the more we found out things about each other which led us to fall in love, head over heels for each other. She has taken me far and beyond in the man that I am and that I ever wanted to be. She has the patience and loving support for me and my kids which was a huge part of our discussions. ...Expand for more
We keep things simple and we make sure that each night before going to bed¿there are no issues to deal with. So, with being in love, it is time for me to tell you the big news. Can you guess? We are getting married very soon. I won't reveal the date because I do not need any wedding crashers. And the lovely lady that I am marrying is: Sally Allen. Life I am back from Iraq. I have spent the last two of three years there. On 2 June, I will have my retirement ceremony and on 31 July, I will have my last day in the Marine Corps. It has been a great 22 years and 8 months of fun but my kids are more important to me than the Marine Corps. It is time for them to enjoy their dad on a full-time basis. For anyone that reads this, both classmates, other servicemembers and friends; people are the most valuable resource a person can have. I would not trade anything for the people I have met over my 39 years of life. We all go through different stages in our life, with best friends and then we move on. Some people move away and other people just simply change and lose touch. Do not do that. I am a person that likes to stay in touch with people. Even if you can only call them once a year on their birthday, then you do just that. I have met and served with thousands and I do my best to remember a face or a name. As for the kids...sit down again. Jordan is now 16 and driving a motor vehicle (by permit only). While most parents would dread this, my daughter drives well with me in the car. Let¿s just say that I have about a 71 inch reach from the passenger seat to the driver¿s seat. I pray often. Anyway, as with any teenage daughter, challenges are always there with her. Still athletic, Jordan plays soccer and basketball. She played JV basketball this year for the high school and will tryout for the soccer team in the spring. Jordan made the team with ease, played in 13 games and scored 3 goals. UPDATE: Her team (Dixon High School) won the NCHSAA CLASS 1-A WOMEN'S SOCCER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP 1-0. I am so lucky to have experienced watching each of my kids win some form of a championship at the state level already. As for her craze with boys, I am ready to throw up. Jesse turns 14 in September. He is growing up fast. Jesse will start his freshman year and join his sister, who will be a junior, this fall at Dixon High School. Like Jordan, he will tryout in August for the Boys Soccer Team. He makes the honor roll and still plays both soccer and basketball. Jesse is a die-hard UNC Tar Heel fan. He bleeds blue but that pale blue stuff has to go. UPDATE: Joel is 9 and will start 4th grade at Dixon Elementary school. He is an extremely talented student athlete. Making the honor roll and scoring a goal in every soccer game this year was a great accomplishment. In one game, he scored 10 goals in a 11-0 rout of this other team. And yes, it was 10 and there were a full set of players on the other team. I hope you have enjoyed and I am sorry that I wrote so much. Best wishes to everyone out there. Cletis
