Clifford's Story

Life This has to be an abbreviated biography, so here goes. I was born in Miami in November 1951. I was adopted at the age of 6 along with my sister Alexis. Life started out rocky at first and I have to say that I do not have a lot of fond memories of High School. The good memories that I have are of the time I spent in the Diving Club and the friends I made there, Hugh Horton and Bobby Lyons are 2 that stand out in my mind. I haven’t heard from either of them since the late 70’s. I was not a very good student, which I attribute to the one size fits all approach of the Florida educational system. Not much has changed there since my high school days (based on my experience I had with my own children). Nevertheless I did manage to graduate and soon after joined the Navy where I spent 4 years including a tour in Vietnam. I also got married way too young at the age of 19 to my high school sweetheart. After my military service I moved to New Jersey where I worked for PSE&G for 15 years. My last job with them was as a Principal Staff Engineer. I attended Ocean County Community College in NJ and received an AS in Mathematics and Electronic Engineering. In 1989 I resigned PSE&G and relocated back to Melbourne, FL along with my wife and 4 children. I worked for a small firm called Metretek for 8 years. In 1991 I divorced my high school sweetheart (something we should have done years before). I met my current wife the same year and we married in 1995. In 1997 I got a call from a recruiter a...Expand for more
t Enron in Houston, TX and took a job with them as a Director of one of their subsidiaries In 2001 my job went away along with Enron and I’m sure everyone knows the story. It was a time for reevaluating life. Even though my entire career had always been centered around engineering and energy related businesses my hobby and passion was biology and the field of botany. So I decided to return to school to pursue an undergraduate degree in biology. In June of 2002 my wife and I relocated to Edmond, OK where I attend the University Of Central Oklahoma in pursuit of my goal and graduated with a BS in Biology in 2007. I’m also the Vice President of Automated Energy, Inc. and a Certified Energy Manager. My company provides internet based energy information over the web and Energy Management consulting services. In conclusion I have to say that life has been extremely good to me. I attribute my good life to hard work and always keeping an optimistic outlook. If you were to talk to most of my high school teachers they would tell you that I was probably going to end up a complete failure and had no real future. That was their failing and I always knew they were wrong. That said I have to say there were a couple of teachers that did recognize some potential and managed to give me inspiration. They were Mr. McCormick (History) and Mr. Golden (Marine Biology). Mr. McCormick taught me to think independently and Mr. Golden taught me to apply myself as hard as I could to the things that interested me.
